Selma Blair Quits Twitter In Solidarity With James Gunn After Firing
It's been more than a week since Disney ultimately opted to let Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn go after old tweets he published resurfaced. In the time since, a lot of people who have spent ample time with Gunn in Hollywood have come to the director's defense. One of those people was Selma Blair, who came to Gunn's defense once before ultimately opting to shed her Twitter account completely. In her final tweet the actress said:

James Gunn has been a consistent topic of conversation ever since old tweets were unearthed of Gunn's featuring both rape and pedophilia jokes from years before. At the time the tweets were a hot topic, Disney severed its relationship with the director and James Gunn even came out to explain that he understood the decision. He also explained to fans that he used to be a little more aggressive with shock comedy, but that his recent career path -- and some therapy -- had helped him to become a different person in recent years.
James Gunn handled his firing about as well as he possibly could given the circumstances and a lot of people who have worked with the director have come out in his defense. Particularly, Dave Bautista has been vocal with his thoughts following Gunn's removal from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Nothing more has been said about the upcoming movie in the time since, and a new director has not been hired by Disney yet. Following the unearthing of Gunn's former tweets, a slew of other people in Hollywood have also deleted social media. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director deleted 20,000 tweets and Nightwing's Chris McKay also got rid of his Twitter account. Selma Blair just joined that party, although as she mentions, her Instagram is still intact.

At this point, one would assume Disney would be unlikely to renege on its firing decision, which means the real concern is whether or not Disney will even make a third Guardians movie. James Gunn had already completed the script before his firing and the movie is scheduled to be released in 2020, but a lot is still up in the air at this point. We'll be see to keep you updated as the status of the third movie in the series changes. In the meantime, the Guardians of the Galaxy -- or what's left of them -- are expected to appear in the upcoming Avengers 4, set to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.

Disney's New Streaming Service May Finally Have A Name
Disney has spoken about their forthcoming streaming service a lot, but one thing they've neglected to do is give it a name. We've just been referring to as the Disney Streaming Service whenever it's talked about, but it may actually have a name which Disney CEO Bob Iger has revealed. He, at least, is not calling it the Disney Streaming Service. He calls it Disney Play.
While no official announcement has been made regarding what the name of the new service will be, Variety points out that Disney's top guy is referring to the service as Disney Play. He used the term during a recent Disney earnings call, which would seem to indicate that it's either the current name of the system internally or simply a name that Iger himself likes. Of course, if the boss likes the name, there's a decent chance that means the name could end up being the actual name of the service.
Although, without any real indication, it's also possible that Bob Iger is using the name specifically because it isn't what the streaming service will be called. It's a way to refer to the service by a short and clear title without revealing what it will actually be called before it's time to reveal the name. It's certainly easier than calling it the Disney Streaming Service all the time.
Disney Play is a decent name, though it's one that seems a little unoriginal. The Starz cable channel, which Disney has an existing deal with, uses that name for its streaming element and, of course, Google uses that name for its entire online store. I would honestly expect something a bit more original from Disney.
Disney Play is one of the more hotly anticipated new online products in recent memory. Following Disney's major acquisitions in recent years including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and most recently 21st Century Fox, Disney simply has the largest library of any major studio which potentially makes the new Disney service incredibly attractive to consumers. While it is clear that not all of Disney's major titles will be available on day one, existing deals mean that some Disney products will be licensed elsewhere for an undisclosed period of time, it does seem like eventually, the service will be the only place to find things like the Marvel Cinematic Universe or anything from Star Wars. In addition to the existing material, a number of original movies and TV series are being produced.
Disney has a massive existing fan base it seems like a no-brainer that the majority of them will be jumping into Disney Play pretty much at day one. The service is expected to launch somewhere in the second half of 2019, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.

DC's live-action universe is completely unpredictable, as a ton of projects have been announced without any concrete release date set. Wonder Woman has been the only critical success, and franchise stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck may be on their way out the door. One of the most fascinating upcoming DC projects is Todd Phillips' Joker, which is set outside the DCEU. Starring Joaquin Phoenix as the title character, the upcoming blockbuster will give an origin story to the iconic villain, with the first images from the set being released courtesy of Todd Phillips himself. Joker is going to have a classic clown look for much of the film, and now Gotham actor Cameron Monaghan (aka Jerome) has thrown some shade the project's way. Check out his Tweet below.
Shots fired. It looks like Cameron Monaghan might be a little tiffed about yet another Joker character coming to live-action. And as such, he was sure to poke fun at Joaquin Phoenix's upcoming look through a not so subtle gif.
Cameron Monaghan's recent tweet is a gif from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. In some episode of the beloved children's figure, Mr. Rogers puts on a clown mask, and it just happens to look exactly like Joaquin Phoenix will look like in Joker. While Monaghan was surely kidding, this faux feud will delight the many DC fans out there who are eager for as much Joker-related content as possible.
While he's only appeared in a handful of episodes, Cameron Monaghan's Jerome is arguably the most popular villain on Gotham. While not explicitly The Joker, the young actor has many of the same mannerisms as the iconic Batman villain, and has even inspired the people of the city to worship him at one point.
Joker as a concept is one that has elicited a mixed bag of emotions for hardcore DC fans. While some are eager for Joaquin Phoenix's performance and to see the character really explained for the first time, others take umbrage with this choice. Part of what makes The Joker so terrifying is that he doesn't have a clear motivation, and is essentially an agent of chaos. Just look at Heath Ledger's Oscar winning performance in The Dark Knight. Joker gave a different reason for his scars every time he explained them, and didn't have any goals other than to bring Gotham into anarchy. It's a scary concept, but now we'll get to see a fully formed origin story, perhaps explaining all the iconic Joker ticks we've come to know and love.
Joining Joaquin Phoenix in Joker is a pretty stacked cast including Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, and Marc Maron. Much of the character and the film's contents are being kept under wraps, so it's unclear exactly what type of story will follow the title character. But filming is under way now, so more information sounds imminent.
