Looks Like Spider-Man: Far From Homes Opening Will Surpass Homecoming's

After the epic Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker is thankfully back, feeling good and no longer a pile of dust! With Spider-Man: Far From Home, he has an action-packed adventure ahead of him with his high school buddies in Europe. As he branches out beyond his friendly neighborhood so will the audience lining up to see him.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is looking at a massive debut in the range of $150 to $180 million when it opens at the top of July, per THR. This would best Spider-Man: Homecomings 2017 opening weekend of $117 million domestic gross before earning $880 million at the worldwide box office.

There is one sneaky catch: the sequel opens on Tuesday, July 2. So these projections are based on a six-day Independence Day weekend, whereas Homecoming opened the Friday after July 4, and ended its first six days with a little over $144 million. This gives Far From Home the upper hand to not only surpass the 2017 blockbuster, but break the current July opening record. If Far From Home nabs those high projections, it can beat out 2011s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 No. #1 spot at $169 million.

Over its first three days, previous projections have Spider-Man: Far From Home at numbers comparable to Homecomings at $90 to $120 million, but the days Tuesday to Thursday likely wont be as profitable as the weekend. The blockbuster will open in China four days earlier than North America, giving the film a boost in foreign markets before it even hits theaters domestically.

Past MCU sequels have notoriously outpaced their origin films for the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. This particular release also follows Endgame, which was the MCUs highest earner and currently the second highest grossing movie of all time. Fans are curious about how Endgame impacts the universe and whats coming next in Phase 4. Far From Home is the official end to Phase 3 and the Infinity Saga.

Tom Hollands Peter Parker once again stars, but hes joined by Sam L. Jacksons Nick Fury and Jake Gyllenhaals Mysterio as he is enlisted to help them fight the Elementals and learn of the Multiverse. The teenager also looks to be dealing with a budding romance with Zendayas MJ and the tragic loss of his mentor, Tony Stark.

Captain Marvel exceeded expectations in its first weekend back in March when it made $153 million during its opening weekend before making $1.1 billion, and Avengers: Endgame just about crushed every record in the book with its $357 million debut before racing to $2.73 billion box office running total. Considering Marvels towering 2019, perhaps Spider-Man: Far From Home will join its fellow films among the highest earning films of the year?

The Rampage Co-Star Who Totally Steals The Movie Away From The Rock

Let's face it, Rampage was supposed to be Dwayne Johnson's movie, and in the practical sense it still is. He gets the majority of the screen time in the film, his character is central to the plot, and all of the advertising has him front and center with one of, if not all of, the monsters in the film. And yet, after watching it on opening night, I couldn't help but feel that this shouldn't have been The Rock's movie at all. This is due to the fact that one co-star always upstages the rest of the room when he's on screen in this movie, and that man is none other than Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Morgan's character, Harvey Russell, is introduced as an agent for an OGA (Other Government Agency), and typically those types are by the book people with sticks up their asses. Not Harvey though, as the first moment he's shown on screen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan turns on that adversarial charm that everyone knows and loves him for, drawling out his lines with a southern twang that helps sell his character as someone we're going to have fun with during the duration of the film. He even gets into a measuring contest with Dwayne Johnson's Davis Okoye, and when the two start arguing about taking off the cuffs and getting into a fight, you kind of want to see it. Most men would be laughed off screen if they tried to take on The Rock, but with Morgan's character possessing a giant belt buckle and pearl handled revolver, I can't help but feel this man has enough tricks up his sleeve to get the job done.

The best part about Harvey Russell is that the man is, without question, the voice of authority during this fantastical scenario. History has given us plenty of those types, and most infamously, one could think back to William Atherton's Walter Peck from Ghostbusters as the sort that Harvey Russell would have been modeled after if this film were made in another decade. But instead of just having him stiffen up, and maybe get the random one liner here and there, Rampage lets Jeffrey Dean Morgan smile and steal his way throughout every piece of film he's in, which not only endears his character to the audience, but also lets us believe that he's as big a deal as he says he is.

If Rampage is going to get a sequel, Morgan's Harvey Russell should either have an increased role, or just be the lead altogether. The magnetism he showed on screen in this weekend's box office offering was the one part of the film I felt truly had a pulse. The rest of Rampage plays like a blockbuster that Dwayne Johnson would have made as The Rock, which is not to say that his acting abilities are diminished in the film, but rather the story is lacking. So if you focused a potential Rampage World Tour adaptation around Harvey and a team of OGA agents tracking and dealing with various monsters, with Davis and George coming in for a powerful assist, then you have the potential for a follow-up that makes great use of the Rampage license, allows for the franchise to really have fun with itself, and allows Jeffrey Dean Morgan to totally turn the scenery into a meal we can all share with glee.

With a career that's given him some exciting and entertaining material to work with, Morgan still hasn't landed himself a major film franchise that he's front and center for. That's a shame, because as anyone could deduce with his role in Rampage, the guy's got the talent and the screen presence to really brighten what could have been a standard monster movie smash 'em up. Harvey Russell is one of the most fun side-characters to steal a movie in a while, and if you're on the fence about seeing Rampage, or are going because you're hanging out with a person or party that really wants to see the film for some reason, know that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has you covered. The man may not save the entire movie, but damnit he makes it a lot more fun with his cowboy attitude, devilish grin, and a really funny sequence between himself and one of the villains in the third act. Mr. Morgan, I hardcore salute you sir, and thank you for the magic that is Agent Harvey Russell.

Although The Flash was one of the first movies to be announced as part of the DC Extended Universe slate, the movie's gone through a number of setbacks in the years since, including losing two directors. Now titled Flashpoint, the Scarlet Speedster's movie is now courting Game Night duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to be the new directors. With Gal Gadot reportedly reprising Wonder Woman for Flashpoint, as well as DC president Geoff Johns saying that it will have Batman elements, it sounded like this movie could be a reasonably faithful adaptation of the 2011 Flashpoint story. However, a new report claims there will be plenty of differences from the source material, particularly by using Dr. Light, Captain Cold and Heat Wave as the villains.

Although Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. Professor Zoom/Reverse-Flash, was the shadowy antagonist of the original Flashpoint story, supposedly he won't retain that role for the cinematic Flashpoint, although apparently the movie will include a reference or flashback to the accident that turned Barry Allen into The Flash, which will include Eobard "in an interesting way." Instead, Dr. Arthur Light is supposedly Flashpoint's lead villain, though Flash will also have to contend with Captain Cold and Heat Wave, two of his oldest enemies from the comics who are leading members of The Rogues. However, if the Flashpoint movie is retaining the temporal craziness of the original story, then it's possible that this versions of the characters might not fully match the villains we're used to seeing on the printed page. As for Dr. Light, he has primarily clashed with the Justice League and Teen Titans in the comics, and while he could certainly pose a threat to Flash, it's hard to imagine how he might be used in a Flashpoint adaptation.

But these weren't the only character details That Hashtag Show dropped. Supposedly Flashpoint will also include Dr. Caitlin Snow, who is one of the main cast members on The Flash TV show and is better known as Killer Frost, though that doesn't necessarily mean her icy persona will emerge in the movie. Supposedly Barry Allen will also work alongside Detectives Jared Morillo and Fred Chyre, the latter of whom Barry will help investigate the death of Jonathan Chambers, known in the comics as Johnny Quick. Moving to returning DCEU characters, Ray Fisher and Billy Crudup are expected to reprise Cyborg and Henry Allen, respectively. Kiersey Clemons is also still attached as Iris West, who was supposed to be introduced last year in Justice League, but her appearance was cut.

We'll have to wait and see if any or all of these Flashpoint details are legitimate, but if they are, this movie certainly isn't shying away from including both longtime players in the Flash mythology and a few folks from other corners of the DC Comics universe. Flashpoint doesn't have an release date assigned yet, but Warner Bros supposedly wants to start production in the latter half of this year so the movie can be screened in 2020.
