Often times in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the superheroes leading their own movies will battle a villain who has similar abilities as them, and that's exactly what happened with Scott Lang in Ant-Man, as he went up against Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket. Following his brief appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang is returning to the big screen and partnering up with a costumed Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and fortunately for them, they won't have to tangle with another shrinking evildoer. Unfortunately for them, the new adversary looks like she'll be even harder to defeat, and a new preview for the Marvel sequel shows off more footage of the antagonist we only know as Ghost, played by Hannah John-Kamen.
With a little over a month to go until Ant-Man and the Wasp's release, much of the movie's plot is still shrouded in secrecy, but one thing that has been made clear is that early into the story, Hope van Dyne and her father, Hank Pym, open up the Quantum Realm, which was briefly explored in the first Ant-Man movie. No doubt Hope and Hank were attempting to free Janet van Dyne, the first Wasp, from her decades-long imprisonment, but evidently their efforts led to Ghost obtaining her ability to phase through solid matter. We still don't know the background of the MCU's Ghost (and if she's anything like her male comic book counterpart, we may never learn the full story), but it'd previously been revealed that she stole Pym technology, so either her new power is entirely artificial or this tech and energies from the Quantum Realm merged and enhanced the villain.
Regardless, this new Ant-Man and the Wasp footage shows that Ghost should not be underestimated, so Scott does what anyone would in this situation: make a list. First, team up with Hope, an obvious choice given the movie's title. Next, they have to fight Ghost and track her down, not exclusively in that order. Oh, and they also have to save the world, a job that every Marvel superhero is called upon to do at least once, if not numerous times. Scott and Hope will be tangling with other criminals in Ant-Man and the Wasp, like Walton Goggins' Sonny Burch, but Ghost will be the main threat that needs to be eliminated before too much destruction is unleashed. Sadly for our heroes, taking down an enemy who can't be touched is easier said than done.
