One Major Movie Role Jennifer Lawrence Wishes She Had Gotten

Back when Alice in Wonderland came out in 2010, Jennifer Lawrence was just breaking into the movie scene with a role in Winter's Bone, having previously been featured in The Bill Engvall Show. Despite her newcomer status, Lawrence recently revealed that she was able to audition for Tim Burton's fairytale retelling. She ultimately lost out to Mia Wasikowska for the role in Alice in Wonderland, but Lawrence recently explained the gig is one she still looks back on and wishes she had gotten. According to what the actress told Howard Stern,

The one thing that really killed me, the only time I've only ever been truly devastated by losing an audition -- because most of the time, you're like, 'Move on, it wasn't meant to be, what could you do?' -- was at Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. That one devastated me.

When Alice in Wonderland first came out, it was a true visual spectacle. The movie ended up making well over a billion dollars worldwide, and at the time reports indicated the movie had helped the box office to increase 10% that year. It was a movie that was at the cutting edge of 3D at the time, too, and a lot of people went out to see the movie in that format. Although the sequel wasn't as successful, clearly Jennifer Lawrence was excited about being involved. She told Howard Stern that she was devastated to lose out on the gig, but she still went and saw the movie when it came out.

Looking back, she also told Stern's show that Mia Wasikowska was the better fit for the role, noting that she would not have been able to bring the same thing Wasikowska did to the table. She said:

She was perfect and amazing and I couldn't have had a British accent.

If you'd like to see Jennifer Lawrence try her hand at accents, you can do so in her upcoming movie, Red Sparrow, a movie in which the actress tries out a Russian accent. If you'd like to hear her with a British accent in a movie, that may have to wait.

As for Jennifer Lawrence, although she didn't get the gig in the big budget Alice in Wonderland movie, she later took the role as lead character Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, which ended up becoming four movies that did well at the box office. She's also had a role in the X-Men franchise. So, she may not have landed the gig in Alice in Wonderland, but she certainly has a slew of other memorable roles to her name. Predator's Honest Trailer Is Packed With Machoness And The Best Handshake In Human History

We are only days away from the release of The Predator. This is just the latest attempt to capitalize on one of cinema's all-time coolest monsters. As such, it seems only right to revisit the classic action horror film that first introduced us to the interstellar sport hunters, 1987's Predator. Fortunately, Honest Trailers has us covered, looking back on the overwhelming machoness, the iconic one-liners and the legendary handshake that make Predator still such a classic today. You can't really discuss Predator without referencing the incredible handshake that turns into an arm wrestling contest between Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch and Carl Weathers' Dillon. And Screen Junkies doesn't neglect this moment. Indeed, this flex shake between these two titans is a strong antidote to peach fuzz, while giving you lifelong handshake and bicep goals. Thanks to memes, this image is probably as reproduced as that of the Predator itself at this point. You also can't talk about Predator without mentioning the one-liners in this film, which you've undoubtedly heard even if you've never seen it. They're ridiculous and cheesy and iconic and awesome.

The Predator Honest Trailer also touches on one of the huge flaws in the film: it gives away the alien in the beginning. As is the audience knows more than the characters, eliminating any mystery element to this jungle contest. Had the beginning of the film not opened with the Predator being dropped off on safari, we, along with Dutch and Co., would have felt an extra level of fear and confusion at what exactly was going on. Then we would have been looking just as curiously at the trees.

The comparison between Dutch and Kevin McCallister from Home Alone is also really funny. Although technically, since Predator came out first, Kevin McCallister is really an ingenious, screaming, ice cream eating Dutch. Maybe Kevin saw Predator prior to his epic parental neglect, and took some tips from it. Screen Junkies also doesn't forget to mention the end-credits of this film, which are certainly jarring-- giving us sitcom-esque shots of characters who were just disemboweled in the film. Except they're smiling like they were having a jolly saunter through the jungle, and not being horribly butchered.

As the Honest Trailer notes, the original Predator has never been improved upon, but that hasn't stopped Hollywood from trying. The next attempt comes from Shane Black, one of the stars of the original film. And it has received mixed reviews so far, seemingly eclipsing the rest of the mediocre sequels, but falling well short of the original.

Looks Like DC's Batman Movie Is Finally Coming Together

Aquaman is about to come out, Wonder Woman 1984 has been delayed, Birds of Prey has a release date, a new title and a cast; the DCEU is moving along. And yet we are all still waiting to see what is going on with Matt Reeves' Batman movie. The questions about the film are many and news about the project is scarce, but it appears that DC's Batman movie is finally coming together, at least according to one reporter.

We should note upfront that this is not confirmed by the studio, but if it is true it's a sign that things are progressing with DC's long-awaited Batman movie. The director of the film, Matt Reeves, is also writing the script. Based on the tweet from The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez, the rewrites on that script are due by year's end, which is mere weeks away.

Assuming Matt Reeves meets that deadline, we'll be one step closer to this film becoming a reality. At that point things will hopefully start coming together and moving toward pre-production so that we can finally see Batman back on the big screen.

Back in September, the same reporter said that Warner Bros. loved Matt Reeves' first draft of his Batman script and that the film was being eyed to start production next summer. With the revisions on that script due by the end of the year, things would seemingly be on track for The Batman or whatever it winds up being called to go before cameras sometime next year.

If Warner Bros. is satisfied with Matt Reeves' revisions and good to go on the script, hopefully that would mean the first half of next year would also bring casting news and some details about the film itself.

Matt Reeves has spoken in very broad strokes about what he is looking to do with his interpretation of the Dark Knight, from emphasizing the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the character to focusing on his often overlooked skills (on the big screen at least) as the world's greatest detective.

Of course more than what this Batman movie will be, the question on everyone's mind is who will don the cowl in Matt Reeves' film and beyond in the DCEU? All signs point to Ben Affleck being out of the DCEU (along with Henry Cavill), so Matt Reeves' movie will presumably give the character an entirely fresh start with a new actor as Bruce Wayne.

It's perhaps cynical to say, but the best thing about this news is that it isn't bad news. The DCEU seems to be in a state of constant flux, unable to find its footing on solid ground. While actors are leaving the franchise and movies are getting delayed, Matt Reeves has been quietly plugging away at his Batman script. Things seem to be beginning to turn around with Aquaman and Shazam! and if anything has the power to make everything right, it's a great Batman movie.

The shark genre will gain a new member this weekend when Jon Turtletaub's The Meg debuts in theaters, and the adaptation of Steve Alten's novel will bring some serious aquatic carnage to the big screen. Star Jason Statham made headlines for actually swimming with sharks to prepare for the film, but it turns out that co-star Ruby Rose already did that decades ago during her time as an Australian surfer. In a recent interview, the Orange is the New Black star told me:

I had already done that. Just being Australian and surfing and growing up kind of in the ocean. This is twenty-something years ago when we did see sharks, but the idea of them attacking was a lot less frequent. They weren't as hungry. There was more food. There's been some changes in the ocean and I feel like that's why they're getting desperate and they're coming closer to the shores and things like that.

So, if you were a surfer in Australia two decades ago, then seeing sharks simply went with the territory. However, as Ruby Rose explained in our chat, seeing them was apparently less dangerous because there was a greater abundance of food for them, which meant that they would not go after humans quite as often. Nevertheless, even with that excuse, I think it is safe to say that it takes some serious gut to get in the water with sharks, regardless of how much food they have.

Of course, Rainn Wilson apparently had his own way to prepare for The Meg ahead of taking on his role as Jack Morris. Building off of what Ruby Rose said about sharks, The Office alum said:

I prepared by watching Jason Statham movies.

The Meg stars Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea rescue diver tasked with taking down an enormous megalodon shark uncovered during a scientific expedition. Ruby Rose stars as a computer programmer named Jaxx, and Rainn Wilson stars as a billionaire named Jack Morris, the man with the money behind the whole thing. As previously mentioned, the movie is based on a book written by Steve Alten, with National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub behind the camera.
