Mark Hamill Thinks New Star Wars Movies Are Released Too Quickly

The past few years have been very exciting for the generations of Star Wars fans out there. With Disney now in charge of the property, there's been a ton of new and exciting content hitting the galaxy far, far away. This includes a new trilogy of movies, in addition to standalone projects like Solo and Rogue One. But according to Mark Hamill, these releases were a bit too close together.

Mark Hamill has been with the Star Wars franchise since A New Hope arrived back in 1977. He recently played a major role as Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, and is set to appear in J.J. Abrams' mysterious Episode IX. While Hamill is the biggest Star Wars cheerleader, he recently admitted that the rapid release schedule might have been a misstep for Disney. As he said:

In our day, it was three years apart. Now theyre two years apart, with a [spinoff] movie in between. I say to the executives at Disney, 'Really? Han Solo five months after our movie? Give it a rest!' They say, 'Well, we have to keep the schedule clear for Mary Poppins.'

Luke Skywalker has spoken. And he seems to think the Star Wars franchise could benefit from spacing out its releases. There has been a new installment in the space opera every year since The Force Awakens arrived, with Solo: A Star Wars Story arriving just months after Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi shocked the fandom. And that isn't something that Mark Hamill necessarily agrees with.

Mark Hamill's comments to Den Of Geek do make sense, and might be a factor into the poor box office performance of Solo. Ron Howard's Star Wars movie is the franchise's first box office failure, and the origin story failed to resonate with moviegoers as a whole. While the blockbuster's behind the scenes drama and the recasting of Han Solo may have factored into it, having another Star Wars release so soon after The Last Jedi likely helped sink Solo in theaters.

Solo's release date being so close to The Last Jedi is also significant because Rian Johnson's sequel was so subversive. Johnson went against all expectations and brought arguably the most divisive movie in the franchise to theaters. And as a result, the naysayers and haters might have been unwilling to take another chance with Solo: A Star Wars Story.

While not exactly 3 years, the gap between Solo and Episode IX should please Mark Hamill. Moviegoers have not had to wait over a year for a new installment since before The Force Awakens arrived in theaters, so hopefully time will amp up anticipation for the final installment in the Skywalker Saga.

Everything You Need To Remember About The Toy Story Movies Before Seeing Toy Story 4

Pixars been riding the sequel train frequently over the last five years with 2016s Finding Dory, 2018s Incredibles 2 and now Toy Story 4 arriving in theaters this weekend. Its been nine years since Toy Story 3 was released, and while that movie initially looked like it intended to cap off the film series about toys who come to life when humans arent looking, Toy Story 4 is picking up where the threequel left off, and the critics are loving this latest installment.

While the Toy Story mythos is hardly as intricate as complicated as what franchises like Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have built, there are still some key things one should remember from the last three Toy Story movies before seeing Toy Story 4. So lets go over those important facts now since theres only days left until the latest Pixar offering hits the silver screen.

Woody And Buzz Didnt Get Off To A Great StartWoody and Buzz Lightyear have been an iconic duo for so long, its easy to forget that these two were initially at odds with one another. Before Buzzs arrival, Woody was Andys favorite toy, but once the space ranger was given to the lad for his birthday, he took the #1 spot, which irritated Woody to no end. Frustrating the cowboy further was that unlike every other toy at the household, Buzz believed he was an actual space ranger for Star Command.

However, hardship can bring people together, and thanks to their time being held captive at Sids house, where Buzz also realized that hes a toy, Woody and Buzz eventually found common ground and worked together to escape the clutches of the sadistic adolescent. From then on, those two have been the best of friends, and with Buzz has also served as an effective second-in-command for the toy gang. Its hard to say how much screen time Woody and Buzz will have in Toy Story 4, but you can count each of them still having the others back.

Woody Made Peace With Andy Eventually Outgrowing HimWhether or not Toy Story 2 is your favorite of the series, theres no question that it was important for Woodys development. After his arm was torn and he was stolen by Al of Als Toybarn fame, Woody was briefly convinced by Stinky Pete the Prospector that it was better for a toy to be persevered rather than be played with. Had Woody stuck with that belief, he would have been shipped off to a museum in Japan.

After reuniting with his friends, Woody was convinced that he was better off being a childs plaything rather than being encased behind glass for the rest of his days, and he came back home with Jessie and Bullseye in tow. By the end of Toy Story 2, Woody informed Buzz that even though that there would come a day that Andy wouldnt play with him anymore, hed enjoy what time he had left with the boy and took comfort knowing hed still have the other toys by his side. Needless to say that plot thread factored heavily into Toy Story 3, but Toy Story 4 will not only see Woody being set aside by Bonnie, but also changing his perspective on what it truly means to be a toy.

Bo Peep Wasnt Around For Toy Story 3For the first two Toy Story movies, Bo Peep was a valued member of the toy gang, serving as Woodys love interest and offering the cowboy the occasional piece of wisdom or advice. However, other than making a silent cameo at the beginning of Toy Story 3 through home video footage, she was absent from the movie, with Woody only vaguely saying that she was among the friends theyd lost in the decade or so since Toy Story 2.

Fortunately for Bo Peep fans, shes back for Toy Story 4, and while we wont post any spoilers here for the folks who want to go in completely fresh, the movie will show how she was separated from the other toys. More importantly though is that Bo Peep is a lot more independent and adventurous since the last time we saw her. As a result of her experiences, shes developed a new philosophy on what it means to be a toy, which shell pass along to Woody when they reunite.

Andy Gave His Toys To BonnieSome may still gather action figures and other toys as collectibles when we become adults, but more frequently than not, toys are left behind when childhood is over. That was the case with Andy, who was about to head off to college at the start of Toy Story 3. It had been years since hed even looked at Woody, Buzz and everyone else, as theyd been kept in the toy box. However, they still meant a lot to him, and initially he planned to take Woody to college and keep the other toys in the attic, although a mistake on his moms behalf resulted in their crazy adventure unfolding.

By the time Toy Story 3 ended, Andy, now reunited with all his childhood toys, decided that rather than go forward with his original plan, hed go along with the suggestion on a note he believed was from his mother (it was actually from Woody) and give the toys to young Bonnie, who was at just the right age to appreciate them. Andy is now at college and taking his first steps into adulthood, and while he wont be a participant in Toy Story 4s present day narrative, we will see flashbacks of him when he was a kid.

The Toy Gang Grew A Lot BiggerFor the most part, the Toy Story movies have relied on the same core cast of characters. Toy Story 2 expanded the lineup with Mrs. Potato Head (who was mentioned at the end of the first movie), Jessie and Bullseye, and in Toy Story 3, the gang grew even bigger once Andys toys set up shop at Bonnies house. Now we can also count the likes of Dolly, Trixie, Buttercup, Mr. Pricklepants and more among this unique group.

All these toys will be back for Toy Story 4, although needless to say that many of them wont be prominent players in the story. Theyll be joined by Forky, an arts and crafts project brought to life who has taken over as being Bonnies favorite toy, and Woody will also meet Melephant Brooks, Chairol Burnett, Bitey White and Carl Reineroceros, four toys who Bonnie loved as a baby, but have since fallen out of favor. With other new characters like Duke Caboom, Ducky and Bunny, and Giggle McDimples being introduced, its possible that some of them may also join the toy gang by the time Toy Story 4 wraps up.

Given the recent passing of Stan Lee, many went to see Captain Marvel with a bit of extra anticipation for his cameo, and the film didn't disappoint. Taking advantage of both its 1995 and Los Angeles setting, the blockbuster depicted Lee at a very specific time in his life - specifically when he was preparing to play a small role in the Kevin Smith indie comedy Mallrats. It's a moment that hit Smith very hard emotionally - as seen on social media - and it seems that the impact has gone as far as to have an effect on the in-production Jay And Silent Bob Reboot:

Much like he did with 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Kevin Smith is re-exploring his roots with his latest feature, and you can feel it in this image posted to the filmmaker's personal Twitter page. In the shot we see Jason Lee reprise his Mallrats role, superhero aficionado/former late night host Brodie Bruce, and while it's no surprise that he's in a comic book shop (he owns one in the 2001 feature), what is obviously significant is the fact that he is reaching for Captain Marvel Vol. 10 #1, which just hit shelves this past January.

Despite the fact that he knew about it ahead of time, Kevin Smith was left a blubbering mess by Stan Lee's cameo in Captain Marvel - which sees the comic book legend on a bus practicing lines from a Mallrats script ("Trust me, true believer"). Obviously right now we don't know exactly what Brodie will say when he picks up that issue, but one can probably assume fairly that it will be something positive... even if that isn't super on-brand for the cynical former-basement dweller. It's possible that he's evolved even further beyond who he was when we last saw him 18 years ago.

Written and directed by Kevin Smith, Jay And Silent Bob Reboot reunites audiences with the titular characters (Jason Mewes, Smith) as they go on another adventure to Hollywood in hopes of stopping the new Bluntman and Chronic reboot that is in development. In addition to the lead duo and Jason Lee, the film will feature many more familiar View Askewniverse faces, including Shannon Elizabeth, Diedrich Bader, and Brian O'Halloran, as well as some new ones - such as Joe Manganiello and Grant Gustin. Saban Films is on board producing and distributing, but it's not yet known exactly when fans can expect to see the finished film.

As he pretty much always is, Kevin Smith has been active on Twitter all throughout the production of Jay And Silent Bob Reboot, so you can be sure that this isn't the last update we'll get from the set.
