Brie Larson Got So In Shape For Captain Marvel She Forced Jude Law To Up His Game

Its not a secret that if an actor or actress signs on to play a superhero that actor or actress also signs on to get ripped. For Captain Marvel, Brie Larson trained for nine months before she ultimately began sparring with Jude Law on the set of the Marvel flick. Apparently, it got to the point where Jude Law mentioned to director Anna Boden that he had to up his game. According to co-director Boden:

She kept Jude on his toes, oh, my God. I remember the first day that Jude got to set and went to stunt training with her to learn that scene, and him being like, 'Oh, I better up my game.

For a long period where Brie Larson was getting into shape for Captain Marvel, she shared images and videos of herself training online. She threw weight balls and did crazy lunges. She worked with exercise bands and kickboxed. She literally got to the point where she could push a jeep by herself. She got fit, yo.

It all plays off in the early moments of Captain Marvel where Brie Larsons character Vers spars with Yon-Rogg, her mentor, played by Jude Law in the film. Per Anna Boden, the two were on set when the older actor confided in the director, per USA Today, that he definitely needed to get moving for his three action scenes with.

Its not as if Jude Law didnt prepare for the gig as Yon-Rogg. Hes been open about doing boxing and martial arts for a long time, but he hadnt really worked out in the Kree gear Captain Marvel demanded, previously revealing they hide quite a bit of movement.

Still, Jude Laws training for Captain Marvel seems to be small potatoes compared to the nine months that Brie Larson went through. She recently told Harpers Bazaar she got good enough that the movie shot the intense action sequence on the train during her first few days on set. She noted:

I jumped in head-first. The first three days of shooting were all the stuff on the moving train, so it was mostly physical. I had been in pretty heavy training for nine months. [These scenes] bought me some time to get a feel for the suit before we actually got into dialogue I think everyone on set was like, This is insane. I can't believe she's doing a fight sequence on a moving train and it's day two.

To state the obvious, when making movies it definitely helps if everybody on set gets along. Acrimony can cause tension and uncomfortability during a production, which can impact the atmosphere and ultimately cause creative problems. It's much better if people are happy and congenial... but as the folks on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home learned during filming, friendship can have its negatives too.

Sometimes having too much fun can cause its own kind of issues, and this was apparently something that director Jon Watts had to deal with while working with Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of the 23rd Marvel Studios blockbuster. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker explained that the two got along so well while making the new Spider-Man movie that they became a bit of a disruption at time. He told the magazine,

Sometimes they would crack each other up, and we could not get through takes occasionally. It was a problem!

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, and Jake Gyllenhaal plays Quentin Beck a.k.a Mysterio - but the two actors apparently didn't have the same kind of contentious relationship making the movie that the two characters have on the pages of Marvel Comics. Rather than fighting and arguing, the two got along so well that they would constantly make each other laugh, and that became a bit of an issue when they were trying to shoot scenes that didn't involve them both busting a gut.

It's entirely possible that part of the reason they got along so well is because Tom Holland was so incredibly excited to work with his co-star. Also speaking with EW, Holland noted that he's been wanting to work with Jake Gyllenhaal for a while now, and he was beyond thrilled to get the opportunity to do so in the making of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Per the actor, there were some initial nerves involved, but they eventually got along swimmingly:

If you look at any interview Ive ever done prior to this movie and someone asked me, Who would you work with if you could work with any actor? I wouldve said Jake Gyllenhaal. And when I found out it was him, I was stoked, but also really nervous. But Jake absolutely was more than I ever could have expected.

So if you're watching Spider-Man: Far From Home later this year and see a smile start to crack on the faces of either Tom Holland or Jake Gyllenhaal, you can feel free to wonder if the grin may have eventually turned into a full-on fit of laughter that ruined a take.

One Avengers: Infinity War Actor Explains How She Didnt Know About The Ending

Major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War. If you haven't seen it yet, look away!

It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a very secretive place. A ton of money, anticipation, and planning goes into each new blockbuster, so Disney and the studio are hoping to keep films' secrets until they finally arrive in theaters. No movie was quite as high stakes as Avengers: Infinity War, which combined 18 movies and a decade of filmmaking into one explosive ensemble project. There was a ton of conversation around just how secret the film's contents were, with many actors not being given much information besides their own scenes. This was certainly the case for actress Carrie Coon, who played Black Order villain Proxima Midnight. While she was involved in a ton of big scenes, it turns out Coon didn't know about Thanos' finger snap, and the myriad character deaths that followed. When asked about the big twist, she said:

I didn't know that. They keep the story under wraps, even when you're working on it. I wouldn't have even known to ask [about how it ends]. I was just doing what they told me to do, acting with my video screen. But isn't that strange?

Despite being onset for some major character deaths and interacting with the majority of the MCU's heroes, Carrie Coon wasn't privy to every secret hidden up the Russo Brothers' sleeves. Instead, Coon could sit in horror like the rest of us as half of the galaxy's inhabitants were killed with the snap of a finger.

Carrie Coon's comments seem to indicate that the Leftovers and Gone Girl actress isn't quite as nerdy as the rest of us. Rather than trying to gather any information from her time onset in Infinity War, she simply did her scenes as Proxima Midnight and didn't ask questions. But considering how tight security is on these projects, that's probably the right call.

There is a certain irony that Carrie Coon had a role in Infinity War, especially considering her role in HBO's The Leftovers. That show focused on a world where 2% of the world's population mysteriously disappears. Thanos was able to take out 48% more people during his snap, but it's strange to see those two narratives colliding. In the same conversation with EW, the actress referenced how doom seems to follows her characters, saying:

You know, in The Leftovers and Fargo, technology didn't work for either character [of mine]. And now we have this disappearance. So... I don't know what the universe is conspiring for me.

While Carrie Coon's character don't always get a happy ending, the actress has managed to get involved in some truly exciting movie and TV shows throughout the years. Now the question is: what's next?
