Zack Snyder Confirms Batman v Superman Fan Theory About Doomsday

When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted in 2016, the film introduced an army of new characters into the DCEU. One notable villain was Doomsday, who had a backstory that seemed quite different from the one that comic book fans have become familiar with in the years since The Death of Superman hit shelves. That said, it looks like a new layer of complexity was just added to the DCEU Doomsday story, as Zack Snyder recently took to social media to confirm a fan theory that the Dawn of Justice Doomsday was not the real Doomsday. In his comment, Zack Snyder said:

Yes, the real Doomsday is out there still.

So while the Doomsday seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice looked like Doomsday and was even referred to by name, Zack Snyder Vero comment has confirmed that this is not THE Doomsday. The character seen in the movie was derived from the DNA of Man of Steel's General Zod (Michael Shannon), and as such, he was merely a different iteration of the same ancient Kryptonian monster.

This adds an interesting element to the overarching Superman story in the DCEU, as it implies the possibility for a rematch at some point in a future Superman movie -- if that long-awaited Man of Steel sequel ever gets off of the ground, that is. Some fans voiced concern over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's handling of the showdown between The Last Son of Krypton and his brutish rival, so this would give the folks at DC another chance to get the story right. After all, Justice League ends with the implication that Henry Cavill's Superman is now far closer to the source material than ever before, so it would make sense to see him battle the "real Doomsday" in a more faithful battle at some point.

Of course, despite all of the exciting doors that Zack Snyder has just opened, we do need to remember that he has taken a fairly significant step back from the DCEU since stepping down as the Justice League director last year. He's currently in the process of developing a cinematic adaptation of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, and while he remains a producer on some DCEU projects like Wonder Woman 1984, his involvement in the overarching creative vision of the DC landscape has been reduced. With that in mind, we will have to wait and see if his ideas are incorporated into future stories.

Alita: Battle Angel: Check Out Rosa Salazar's Intense Training In Exclusive Clip

Playing a role like the central character in director Robert Rodriguezs Alita: Battle Angel is a task that requires a lot of CGI work, and a good amount of mocap to boot. But on top of those fantastical elements is a very physical component, something that actor Rosa Salazar, and everyone else involved in the films production, totally understood.

Now, in preparation for the films home video release, we have an exclusive clip of just how intense Salazars training regimen was, and its pretty impressive. See for yourself below:

As mentioned in the Alita: Battle Angel video above, it took roughly 5-6 months of training after Roza Salazar got the role to get her in shape for the part. That in and of itself is impressive, considering most films probably would have just used CGI stunt doubles and flashy effects to nail down the impressive way Alita moves throughout her travels in Iron City.

But watching the footage from the various training sessions, as well as remarks from folks like Salazar, producer Jon Landau, and stunt coordinator Garrett Warren, its amazing to see just how much practical work went into getting Alita: Battle Angels central character battle ready. Seeing Rosa train in everything from martial arts to roller blading, which definitely came in handy during the Motorball sequences, is a feat that speaks to the dedication that is seen in every inch of this films being.

But, of course, its not just Rosa Salazar behind Alitas impressive physical thrills. As the actor herself discusses further in the clip above, there was a handful of women that threw themselves physically into portraying Alita: Battle Angels protagonist, particularly in service of the following skills:

It takes a lot of girls to bring Alita to life. It takes about nine girls. Im doing all the acting, and doing all I can do martial arts wise. But then there are other girls who take it from there, who can twirl through the air six times, who can contort their bodies because theyve been doing it since birth. They really take it to the next level.

Knowing the level of detail that producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez were looking to impart onto Alita: Battle Angels blend of practical skills and effects, as well as cutting edge CGI, the level of effort required to really nail Alitas role seems like par for the course. That doesnt rob Rosa Salazar or any of the stunt performers and trainers who aided her in shaping the outcome of the film, as no matter how clear the path to such a result may seem, its never as simple as showing up and putting in the minimum effort.

Alita: Battle Angel wont be on Digital HD until July 9, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases landing on July 23.

Who This Is Us' Sterling K. Brown Plays In Black Panther

The following contains spoilers for Black Panther. Feel free to come back after you've seen it.

Sterling K. Brown has a major role in one of the biggest shows on television in This is Us, but this weekend he debuts in what is guaranteed to be the biggest movie in months, Black Panther. Brown joins an all-star cast, but his role, unlike most of the others, was shrouded in mystery, as it was never revealed exactly who he was playing. Now that Black Panther is out, we understand why, because while the role isn't particularly large, it's pivotal to the plot and would have likely revealed story points that Marvel wanted to keep hidden. Read on to learn who N'Jobu really is.

We meet Sterling K. Brown's N'Jobu in the opening of the film. He's in Oakland, California in the early 1990s and he's busy planning something in an apartment that involves the use of a lot of big guns. There's a knock on the door, which turns out to be a couple of Dora Milaje, the female soldiers of Wakanda. Not only that, but they've brought the Black Panther, T'Challa's father T'Chaka, with them.

It turns out that Sterling K. Brown's character is Wakandan, not only that, but he's the brother of T'Chaka. Unfortunately, things are not going well between the brothers, as T'Chaka is there to accuse his brother of working with Ulysses Klaue to steal Vibranium from Wakanda. N'Jobu admits his guilt but argues it's necessary because the rest of the world needs Wakandan technology in order to fight oppression throughout the globe. T'Chaka won't hear it and orders his brother to return to Wakanda to stand trial.

From there the film jumps forward to the current day and follows on the events of Captain America: Civil War. T'Chaka has died and the movie doesn't reference these earlier events until much later. Later, when T'Challa does wonder what happened all those years ago, we get into the serious spoiler territory.

When T'Challa sees that Erik Killmonger has a ring that looks like his, he begins to investigate what truly happened to his uncle. We then see the moments that immediately followed the opening sequence, where N'Jobu pulls a gun on his brother, and the Black Panther strikes back and kills him. We then learn that Killmonger is actually N'Jobu's son who found his father's body and vowed revenge.

We see Sterling K. Brown one final time, after Killmonger drinks the fluid that provides the power of the Black Panther, he has a spiritual vision of his father and the two talk. Both clearly have some regrets about the path that life has taken.

The familial relationship between T'Challa and Killmonger in Black Panther isn't based in the comics, so it's understandable why Sterling K.Brown's character was being hidden, the truth could have revealed this major plot element.

How Ant-Man And The Wasp Will Operate Next To Avengers: Infinity War, According To Peyton Reed

Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War will likely go down as the biggest film of 2018, full of massive consequences for the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- but it also puts the upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp in a weird position. After all, it's hard to follow the heart-stopping climax featured in the April release. That being said, the movie is finding a way around it, as Peyton Reed describes the film as essentially being completely independent of Marvel's 19th film:

We definitely had to deal with the ramifications post-[Captain America:] Civil War. That was crucial to Scott, and crucial to Hope. I mean, it really is fundamental in the jumping off point about what's going between the two of them at the start of this movie. Outside of that, what I'm really happy about is we're free to tell sort of our freestanding story. Once we establish that as the leaping off point, [Ant-Man and The Wasp] is going on over here, with huge personal stakes, and huge other stakes that are really separate of what's going on with [Avengers:] Infinity War. So that, again, is something that was really, really appealing to me, is to not have to... we have enough stuff to track in this movie without having to sort of keep abreast of what's going on in that.

So for those of you thinking that Ant-Man and The Wasp will feature some kind of epic crossover with Avengers: Infinity War, you may not want to hold your breath (discounting whatever goes on in the post-credits sequences, which have a tendency to operate separately from the main film). Peyton Reed said as much last year during an interview on the Atlanta, Georgia set of his new movie, which I had the opportunity to visit with a small group of other film journalists. During the roundtable, I asked the filmmaker how his blockbuster was being constructed in coordination with the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed film (which was being made on the same lot), and he made a big point about his independence in the grand scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rather than taking place at the same time as Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp will instead be set a few months after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Having been freed from The Raft by the star-spangled man with a plan, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) decides to turn himself in, and he is sentenced to house arrest. Deciding that he really wants to turn his life around, he chooses to stay under the radar and behave, but that's before Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) reluctantly recruit him for a dangerous mission involving the Quantum Realm. Before long, Scott is once again growing and shrinking as Ant-Man, teaming-up with his partner to help save the world.

Much about Ant-Man and The Wasp has been kept pretty hush-hush up until now, but this is just the start of our coverage from our visit to the set. Be on the lookout for more of our coverage, and get ready for Marvel's 20th blockbuster, which will be in theaters on July 6th.
