Looks Like Spider-Man: Far From Home's Mysterio Is Getting His Iconic Costume

Spider-Man: Far From Home will see Peter Parker squaring off with a new enemy in Jake Gyllenhaal's Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio. Like Michael Keaton's menacing Vulture before him, this is Mysterio's cinematic debut, and given his very comic-booky look, it wouldn't be too surprising to see this Mysterio bear little resemblance to his counterpart in the comics. However, there is a new clue that could mean Mysterio is indeed getting his iconic costume, fish bowl and all. Take a look.

So basically what this Instagram post from candykingsuk shows is a new limited edition Dr. Pepper flavor that is coming out in 2019 to celebrate the release of Spider-Man 2 (i.e. Spider-Man: Far From Home). Although the packaging isn't final, you can see on the can a blue Spider-Man logo in the background and in the foreground a silhouette that possesses a distinctly bowl-shaped head.

This isn't a guarantee, but given the shape of that dome and the fact that the can indicates that the final design will feature a "Major Movie Character" it stands to reason that it will be Mysterio, and his iconic costume from the comics will make the jump to live action for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Jake Gyllenhaal could look really cool in the classic Mysterio costume, and if that winds up being the case, it's sweet news for comic book fans, almost as sweet as the delicious-sounding and undoubtedly sugar-filled Dark Berry flavor.

Mysterio always seemed like one of those characters who just looked too ridiculous and wouldn't translate from the page to the screen without needing to undergo a transformation. Yet it appears that Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio will look like a proper Mysterio.

As the comic book genre has grown over the years and audiences have become more familiar and comfortable with these characters, movie studios, especially Marvel, have been able to push the envelope further, giving us costumes and characters that are more faithful and look like they leapt off the page. That's how we went from the militaristic black leather of 2000's X-Men to the colorful characters in something like Thor: Ragnarok.

That said, it still seemed possible that Spider-Man: Far From Home could go the Baron Zemo route and change the character's look in a big way. So it's encouraging that, if Mysterio indeed rocks the fishbowl as this can seems to indicate, that Sony and Marvel are going for it.

While this is not a complete confirmation and doesn't actually show what Mysterio will look like, it is just another example of the size of these movies betraying their secrets. Despite all the measures taken to ensure secrecy, marketing and tie-in products for blockbusters like toys, merchandise and limited edition soft drinks can often give up the game.

Millions Sent Back To Malaysia In Wolf Of Wall Street Case

With one of the biggest financial scandals of all time linked to the funding of its production, The Wolf of Wall Street has come back into the public eye. As the trial against former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is proceeding in court, another part of the investigation into Red Granites alleged impropriety has proceeded, because Malaysia has been given several million dollars back from its raided 1MDB fund.

The United States government has returned $57 million to the Malaysian government, thanks to production company Red Granite paying $60 million in a recent settlement. The gap in funds returned, amounting to around $3 million, was due to the FBI and Department of Justice recovering funds for their investigative efforts.

While thats a drop in the bucket when compared to the $4.5 billion that was taken from Malaysias 1Malaysia Development Berhad fund, its a start to recovering the money that was funneled into Najib Razaks high living lifestyle, which included funding fancy parties, large ticket purchases of artwork and luxury properties.

Razak also invested in the funding of films like The Wolf of Wall Street, Dumb and Dumber To and Daddys Home. Najib Razak was able to do so, courtesy of his step son Riza Aziz, who was one of the founders of the Red Granite company. The scandal was so huge that it's taken almost five years to work through the legal proceedings, and now it feels like justice is finally starting to be served.

The Hollywood Reporter also mentioned in its reporting on this recent development that $322 million has been recovered so far, with another $139 million in the process of being returned back to Malaysias government. While it didnt take too long after the production of The Wolf of Wall Street and Dumb and Dumber To to start the investigation into Red Granites financing practices, were now finally seeing the concrete results of those efforts being paid back to the people of Malaysia.

Tommy Thomas, Malaysias attorney general, is confident that continuing efforts to recover the improperly channeled 1MDB funds will yield more payouts into the countrys investment fund. But for the time being, the $322 million recovered is the start of those promised recoveries.

Even Jordan Belfort himself couldnt help but feel that The Wolf of Wall Street was being made with illicitly-obtained money, and if thats not a sign of this entire enterprise being worth the effort, then we dont know what is. Naturally, well be keeping our eyes peeled for any further developments in terms of the 1MDB funds being returned, and should any other updates come through on the matter, well report back with the findings here at CinemaBlend.

Star Trek Writer Alex Kurtzman Reveals His Failed Batman Movie Pitch

What if Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy was never made? We thankfully don't have to live in that reality, but there were certainly other filmmakers who might have helmed 2005's reintroduction to Batman. Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman was in the running back in the day, with his former partner Roberto Orci. And you guessed it, it did not end well for them. Here's what he said:

We went in for Batman before Christopher Nolan, not realizing that they wanted to shift to that [darker] tone. Halfway through the meeting, after three or four weeks of planning, the executive stopped us: 'Did nobody tell you that we're not going in that direction at all?' We just said, 'Thank you for your time. We should probably stop here.'

Yikes, sounds like it was quite the awkward meeting. In a recent THR interview with Alex Kurtzman, the writer/producer shared the story when he was asked about his worst experience pitching, so it's nice to know it doesn't get more cringe-y then this.

When Warner Bros. was looking to bring Batman to the big screen at the time, it was following the flick starring the masked hero everyone loves to hate, 1997's Batman & Robin. You know the super campy one starring George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy?

Batman & Robin was certainly the most kid-friendly flick about the superhero, but it was also the least successful critically and money-wise. So when Warner Bros. was looking to give the hero another shot at a hit, it makes sense that Christopher Nolan's dark, gritty take on the Caped Crusader was just what they were looking for.

So when Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci pitched something else, probably more along the lines of a fun-filled action movie starring Batman, it wasn't going to cut it. The pair went on to work on the scripts for The Island, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers and 2009's Star Trek, so I'd say they got their share of working on a successful series or two.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are responsible for revitalizing the Star Trek franchise, which has grossed over $1 billion worldwide and led Kurtzman to be instrumental in putting a new Star Trek series back on television, over at CBS.

While Batman wasn't in the cards for them, they did work on a superhero movie after all -- The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Considering the film starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone ended up cutting the Sony franchise short, it's unclear if a Batman movie written by them would have fared better.

Who knows? They might have had a really good pitch for Batman. All we know is Warner Bros. wanted the hero to be darker and that's not what Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were thinking up at the time.
