DC's next big superhero movie hits theaters December 21, but there's a way you might see it several days early. The only catch is that to do so you have to be a member of Amazon Prime. The online retailer is reportedly going to be offering a members-only sneak peek of the film on December 15.
Attending the December 15th screening won't make you one of the first to see Aquaman as the film is actually being released in a number of territories prior to its official December 21 release stateside, but it will almost certainly make you one of the first in North America to see the next installment of DC's cinematic universe.
No official announcement of the screening has come from Amazon, and tickets aren't available yet, so you'll need to keep your eyes open, as Rerelease News who announced the screening says tickets are likely to go on sale soon. Ticketing is being handled exclusively through Atom Tickets.
Interestingly, doing a quick Google search myself brings up a listing for tickets to Aquaman at a couple local theaters for December 15, though when I click through to the purchasing site, the ability to purchase tickets for that date isn't there yet. It would seem that the infrastructure for this screening is being put in place but isn't quite ready yet. Still, it would appear to confirm that the screening is happening and that tickets will likely be hitting soon.
The other reason to expect that this special screening is happening is that it isn't the first time Amazon has offered special screenings to Prime members. They did the same thing last December with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and then again over the summer with Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.
Some of those screenings reportedly sold out so if you are interested in seeing Aquaman early you may want to jump on tickets once they're available. While the screening may be limited to Amazon Prime members, there's no shortage of those in the world, so there may be competition for tickets once they hit.
I attended the Amazon Prime screening of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle last December and the experience was great. Tickets cost no more than they normally would for the film, the screening was in a theater that had reserved seating, so there was no need to get there super early to make sure you got a good seat in case the theater was full. It was as pleasant a theater-going experience as I've had. The fact that the film was surprisingly entertaining didn't hurt. If the Amazon Prime Aquaman screening follows suit in every way, that won't be a bad thing.
Getting to see the next big comic book superhero movie nearly a week before the rest of the country would be great. It will just be a question of whether or not tickets go super fast and whether everybody who wants one will be able to get one.
