Spoilers ahead for Blumhouse's Halloween.
It's been a great few years for the horror genre, as a renaissance of new and exciting properties have resulted in box office success and critical acclaim. Many of the latest hits come from Blumhouse, and the horror house recently turned its head to the classics with Halloween. The new Halloween movie defied the canon, and brought a powerful story of grief and trauma to theaters for the titular holiday.
Halloween also made a whopping $253.4 million, which is a major win for the indie film, and the studio itself. As such, it seemed inevitable that another sequel would be green-lit, especially as Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode and her family survived Michael Myers' latest attack. But it turns out that no one has approached Curtis about playing her signature role again. As she recently revealed,
I have no idea at this point, today, I have no idea. I would make an assumption that, if [director and co-writer] David Gordon Green has a story to tell, that the people involved with the movie would encourage him to tell it. I haven't been told whether or not he has a story to tell and whether or not he would include Laurie Strode in the telling. Really, time will tell. I know David is a busy guy.
It looks like horror fans around the world need to relax, because a Halloween sequel isn't already in the works. A sequel would be impossible without David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis, and with the latter currently in the dark about the franchise's future, we may have to wait a few years before returning to Haddonfield.
Jamie Lee Curtis' comments to EW might be a bit disappointing for some moviegoers who might want another Halloween to arrive in time for next year's Holiday. The season is a great time for slashers, and Blumhouse's Halloween delivered in a major way when it arrived in theaters in October. And while another sequel is not off the table, it's clear that the wait is back on for the Strode women to return to the silver screen.
Halloween did seem to set up a sequel, as it changed its trio of Strode ladies forever, and seemingly hinted at Michael's next resurrection. Laurie's obsession with Michael actually paid off, as her home and daughter were equipped to fend him off, and trap him in the bunker. And after Allyson turned his own butcher knife on Michael, they watched as he presumably burned alive inside the home.
But if moviegoers sat through the credits, you could hear Michael Myers' signature breathing from within his mask. As such, we can assume he's still out there.
Halloween will be available digitally on December 28th, while it'll release for home purchase on January 15th, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.

In any case I enjoyed it a lot and I could clearly tell the show isn't as shitty as some of the shows on SyFy etc. It did help that the lead and Dylan Bruce are so sexy.
