Star Wars J.J. Abrams Shares First Photo From The Set Of Episode IX

There's no franchise quite as popular as Star Wars. Starting decades ago, George Lucas' colorful world has been passed down across generations, resulting in a massive pool of devoted fans to the galaxy far, far away. So when J.J. Abrams and Disney brought back the franchise with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it broke box office records and help inspire a new trilogy to complete the Skywalker legacy. Abrams is back to direct Episode IX, wrapping up stories and characters he originally introduced. The director/producer just shared the first image on set, and it's cryptic and exciting. Check it out.

Does anyone else have chills? This new image, however out of focus, proves that Episode IX has officially begun production. And considering how high the stakes are in the wake of The Last Jedi, there's a ton to explore in this final installment in the main Star Wars franchise.

The above image is mostly focused on the camera recording the image, but it also features some awesome Star Wars iconography in the background. If you look closely, it seems that Abrams is filming a scene from within the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. This is a common setting for the beloved space opera, so most fans will easily be able to make up the Falcon's cockpit in this first photo.

Not just an empty set, there are two actors filming within the iconic ship. Unfortunately, only one character is clearly visible: John Boyega's Finn. Finn is one of the trio of new heroes created by J.J. Abrams, and he's had a trial by fire in The Resistance. If Episode IX has a time gap after The Last Jedi, then it should be interesting to see how he's continued to fight against the First Order. Has he become a Han Solo, thrown into heroics before going above and beyond? We'll just have to wait and see.

Regardless of the film's mystery plot, J.J. Abrams' first set photo of Episode IX also shows that Finn finally found a new outfit. The former Stormtrooper spent his first two films rocking basics and Poe Dameron's jacket, but he's got new duds in the above image. Instead he's rocking a sweet vest combo-- once again reminiscent of Harrison Ford's Han Solo.

As far as whose next to John Boyega, smart money says its Daisy Ridley's Rey. Rey is the owner of the Millennium Falcon now, and she's not going to give Han's ship over easily. Finn and Rey spent the entirety of The Last Jedi separated, before finally coming together in the film's final moments. With J.J. Abrams back in the director chair, smart money says Finn and Rey's relationship will once again become a focus of the narrative.

Watch Tom Holland Show Up On Kimmel, Get His Spider-Man Mask Stolen

Spider-Man: Far from Home will hit theaters next summer, but we don't need to wait that long to see Tom Holland in action. The actor made an appearance last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he showed off his new Spider-Man costume and a bit of acrobatic skill, but only after he got his mask back from somebody who'd run off with it. Check it out.

The clip starts out with Jimmy Kimmel's frequent comedy source Guillermo coming out on stage to the music of the classic animated Spider-man theme. He's wearing a Spider-Man mask and making "pew pew" noises because apparently nobody ever taught him that "pew pew" is the noise a Star Wars blaster makes. Web shooters make a "thwip" sound. Doesn't everybody know that?

Next, we see "somebody" come out in a full Spider-Man costume, save a traffic cone on his head. It's not long before the Spider-Man in question is revealed to be Tom Holland himself. He's sporting the Spider-Man costume that we've seen in set images, both those official and those leaked. It trades in the more traditional red and blue costume for a red and black outfit. The suit looks amazing. Considering this is likely to be the only real look at the suit in action until the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home hits, it's a great way to show it off, and since images of the suit had leaked anyway, there's no reason not to do it.

After Tom Holland officially plugs Spider-Man: Far From Home on Jimmy Kimmel Live the host asks how the new movie will work considering Spider-Man's fate in Avengers: Infinity War. This leads Holland to beat a hasty retreat to avoid answering the question. Kimmel asks if the movie is a prequel, and as far as we know that's not the case, but exactly what the deal is, we don't really know.

It's not even clear why Spider-Man will have the new costume in the first place. Between the previous Spider-Man: Homecoming outfit and the Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider costume, Peter Parker has plenty of stuff to choose from. Unless whatever brings Spider-Man back from "the snap" brings him back without his clothes. Of course, if that happens there may end up being a lot of naked people at the end of Avengers 4.

The clip ends as Tom Holland flips his way off stage, showing off the natural acrobatic skill that helped him land the role of Spider-man in the first place.

While Tom Holland says he has to get back to the set, all indications are that principal photography on Spider-Man: Far From Home has officially wrapped. There will almost certainly be reshoots at some point, but the heavy lifting is done. Spider-Man: Far From Home is set for release July 5 2019.






I can respect that Snyder had a vision for a self-contained series. But it really ought to have been marketed as such (rather than as the DCEU) and limited to JUST Batman and Superman. Maybe Wonder Woman, but Snyder didn't really take full advantage of her either.

John Wick 3 Will Hit A Box Office Milestone Over Memorial Day Weekend

This Memorial Day weekend will see the release of three new movies, but being outnumbered has never seemed to be a concern for John Wick. Despite the heavy competition, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum is open to all challengers, and while the film won't be No.1, it will still hit a milestone at the box office. The holiday weekend will push the third film in the action franchise to exceed $100 million domestically.

Last weekend, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum opened at No. 1, finally toppling Avengers: Endgame. The action movie opened to $56.8 million domestically, the highest debut for the entire series. Currently, the film has grossed $83.2 million at the domestic North American box office, with a worldwide total of $119.7 million.

Parabellum is likely to gross $24 million at the domestic box office from Friday to Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo. This is a 58% drop from last week, which is higher than the previous two films. (44.5% for the first John Wick and 46.7% for John Wick: Chapter 2). Overall, the four-day weekend is expected to push its domestic total to about $109 million, which is a nice milestone for the film. John Wick: Chapter 2 grossed $171.5 million worldwide when all was said and done, so we will see if Parabellum can beat that score.

It's not too surprising to see Parabellum is another success. The John Wick films are pretty well loved, scoring positive reviews from critics and moviegoers. Most importantly, the films have some of the best choreographed action sequences that you can find these days. It's straight up action porn.

Parabellum is expected to hold second place this weekend, as three new movies open in theaters. The major release in theaters is the live-action remake of Aladdin, and it will be joined by newcomers Brightburn and Booksmart. The latter has earned rave reviews from critics, while the other two movies have received a mixed reception.

Despite the initially negative reception thanks to some early trailers, Aladdin will take the No. 1 spot. The remake is looking at an opening of more than $100 million domestically after an estimated $31 million on Friday.

Meanwhile, Brightburn is expected to earn around $10 million while Booksmart is looking at $6.5-$8 million. These are smaller scale movies when compared to Aladdin or Parabellum, so this is within expectations. Avengers: Endgame will hang on to third place while Detective Pikachu is bumped to fourth.

Moviegoers have no shortage of options this holiday weekend, so you might as well see as much as you can! John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum is in theaters right now if you want to give it some extra love.
