James Gunn Has Debunked That Crazy Guardians Of The Galaxy Galactus Theory

Recently, there has been a theory going around about a possible Galactus connection in Guardians of the Galaxy that appears during the scene where Benicio del Toro's The Collector explains the history of the Infinity Stones to the Guardians. If true, this massive reveal would seemingly fit the bill for the fabled Easter egg that has long went undiscovered in that film, while also planting seeds for the World-Eater in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So has the Easter egg at last been found? Is it Galactus? Well, no. Writer and director James Gunn debunked the theory completely, responding:

And so the hunt continues. There is no Galactus connection or hint in the Collector scene in Guardians of the Galaxy. As far as Easter egg hunts go, James Gunn sets the difficulty to hard mode. You have to appreciate that he always takes to Twitter to engage with fans and confirm Easter eggs or debunk them. This reveal would certainly have been a major geek-out moment for fans, but at least now we know there's nothing there.

For anyone who isn't aware of it, the debunked theory basically goes like this. During the scene with The Collector, we see the history of universe and the Infinity Stones. The theory speculates that one of the planets seen is that of Taa, which just so happens to be the home of Galan. That name may not be familiar, but Galan is the humanoid who eventually becomes the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus. Galan lived on Taa during the sixth incarnation of the multiverse, and he is the sole survivor of that multiverse after the universe's renewal cycle. Galan merged with the essence of the Sentience of the Multiverse, surviving the renewal and becoming Galactus. The theory posits that the Sentience of the Multiverse is seen in The Collector's lecture, as well as some symbology that echoes the helmet of Galactus. It's a compelling theory, but alas, specious. Admittedly, any sort of Galactus presence in Guardians of the Galaxy might have been dicey considering that Disney does not currently own the rights to the character. Of course, that may soon change if the Disney-Fox deal goes through, and the MCU gains access to the Fox assets like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Then perhaps we can at last see the Destroyer of Worlds in all his magenta and crazy-helmeted glory. There are few characters with the potential to escalate the threat level in the MCU after Thanos, but Galactus is one of them.

James Gunn did mention on Twitter that the final Easter egg in Guardians of the Galaxy has been partially solved, but the full truth remains hidden. If no one is able to crack it, it could be a while until James Gunn reveals the answer. Then, of course, there is another super secret Easter egg in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 yet to be found. I'm guessing when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits in 2020, there will be another masterfully hidden Easter egg, so fans have their work cut out for them. Because despite best efforts, these secrets are piling up.

Why The Predator Is Rated R

A killer from another world is going to invade Earth next month when Shane Black returns to the Predator series for The Predator. The trailers for the film have seemingly promised a return to form, with intense violence and some pretty crude humor sprinkled throughout. Now that The Predator has received its official R rating, we can now confirm that these elements will help solidify its adult status. Specifically, the film has an R-rating for:

Rated R for strong bloody violence, language throughout, and crude sexual references.

Most of these elements should not surprise longtime fans of the franchise. Predators are vicious hunters who kill, skin, and debone their victims without a second thought. Couple that with the fact that the film will introduce an elite team of special forces operators and an "Ultimate Predator" for them to face off against, and it becomes relatively clear that violence will play a significant role in this story. Then add in the fact that this is a Shane Black movie, and we can expect a lot of swearing and references to sexuality as well.

Of course, the rating laid out by Filmratings.com doesn't necessarily note that there are actual sexual situations or nudity in the film. With so much chaos accompanying the arrival of the aliens, it looks like the, "if your mom's vagina was a video game" gag from a recent red band trailer is the extent of it.

Given Shane Black's desire to bring the franchise back to the spirit of the films that opened the series back in the 1980s and 1990s (not to mention the fact that Shane Black was actually a star of the original Predator movie), we should expect something that leans much closer to John McTiernan's Predator than something as (relatively) family-friendly as Alien vs. Predator.

An R rating for The Predator seems to make plenty of sense, particularly when we look at how the franchise has endeavored to go back to its roots. Most installments in the Predator franchise (such as Predator, Predator 2, and Predators) have all been rated R, and the only film to delve into the realm of PG-13 was Alien vs. Predator, and while Alien vs. Predator: Requiem DID have an R rating, we still don't like to talk about that film.

The Predator will hit theaters next month on September 14. If you want to see all of the bloody violence and hear all of the strong language and crude sexual references, then make sure to check it out when it debuts -- just remember to leave the kids at home.
