A New Fantastic Four Series Is Coming At Marvel

It's been a few years since the Fantastic Four appeared in a movie, but that's also been true for the team in the comics. At the end of the 2015 storyline Secret Wars, the Fantastic Four disbanded, and while Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing, and Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch, have been running around on Earth, Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic, and Sue Storm, a.k.a. Invisible Woman, have been traveling across the universe with their children and the Future Foundation to rebuild the multiverse. Well, folks, Marvel's First Family is finally coming back together, which has us wondering if this will have any implications on the team's cinematic future.

It was announced today that a new, ongoing Fantastic Four comic book series is launching in August, which is being written by Dan Slot, who is wrapping up his 10-year run on The Amazing Spider-Man and will also be writing Tony Stark: Iron Man, while Sara Pichelli of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man fame is handling illustration. The Thing and The Human Torch will still be teaming up with each other in the Marvel Two-In-One series, but for those of you who've been wanting to see the original Fantastic Four team back together, your wish has been granted.

Although characters like Captain America and Namor the Sub-Mariner were around decades before the Fantastic Four was introduced, this team arguably launched what we now know as the Marvel Comics universe. Like a lot of comic book series, they haven't always sold well, but the quartet have always been among the most prominent characters in this world of superheroes and super villains. Seeing them together again, battling bad guys and going on crazy adventures is a welcome return to that classic Marvel flavor. That being said, I am curious if this new comic book series is connected in any way to plans for the Fantastic Four being adapted for film.

While Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski said that they'd been waiting for the right "creatives" to become available for this Fantastic Four series, let's not forget that last December, it was announced that Disney intends to purchase 21st Century Fox, and if that deal is finalized, that would mean that Marvel would regain the cinematic rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties. With such a huge purchase on the horizon, maybe the folks at Marvel decided now would be a great time to relaunch the team's book; that way if Disney does acquire Fox, there will be a Fantastic Four series ideally going strong if the MCU decides to release its own Fantastic Four movie.

On the other hand, Marvel (and DC, frankly) is notorious for implementing twists and then undoing them months or years later. For instance, Wolverine died back in 2014, but earlier this year Logan was resurrected and is reclaiming his superhero mantle from X-23. It's possible it was always the plan to set aside the Fantastic Four team for a few years and then bring them back in a big way. Still, if the Fantastic Four is able to one day be incorporated into the MCU, having this series around certainly doesn't hurt.

Wolverine was already a prominent X-Men character before the X-Men film series began, but Hugh Jackman's tenure as the character brought him to new heights of popularity. After playing Wolverine for nearly two decades, Hugh Jackman hung up the adamanitum claws last year in Logan. While the future of the X-Men film series is currently Wolverine-less, it stands to reason that there will likely come a time when the clawed mutant is recast. The Fate of the Furious' Scott Eastwood has previously expressed interest in taking over as Wolverine, and he's still keen on making that happen. Eastwood recently said:

I love Wolverine. He's one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. He's a renegade. Total badass renegade. He's kind of, you know, a loose cannon...doesn't play by the rules...he's the kind of character that I love. 100 %.

Scott Eastwood already has a little superhero movie experience under his belt from playing Lieutenant GQ Edwards in 2016's Suicide Squad, but he isn't opposed to starring in another superhero movie if the opportunity presents itself. When Screen Rant mentioned how many people have fan-casted him as Wolverine, Eastwood reaffirmed how much he would like to play Wolverine somewhere down the line. Eastwood certainly isn't the only actor who has thrown their hat into the ring to play Wolverine for a new generation, but if he bulks up a little bit, grows the character's trademark beard/sideburns combo and works on channeling the mutant's berserker rage, then he could potentially make a worthy successor to Jackman.

Wolverine was arguably the most important character of the X-Men film series for a long time, with Hugh Jackman appearing in all but one of the first 10 movies (though he did "cameo" in a People Magazine issue in Deadpool), and of those nine, he was the lead character in all but X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse. Jackman's Wolverine died at the end of Logan when he sacrificed his life to prevent his monstrous clone, X-24, from killing Laura and the other adolescent mutants. We're now entering a new era where Wolverine won't be involved with any of the main movies or spinoffs, but given this franchise's loose continuity, as well as the possibility that it could be rebooted, don't be surprised if one day Scott Eastwood or someone else is hired to give Wolverine new life in a cinematic setting.

2015s Terminator: Genisys may not have been a successful reboot starter, but if weve learned anything from Arnold Schwarzenegger hell be back. Deadpool director Tim Miller has taken up the next installment of Terminator coming at the end of the year. Heres a new behind-the-scenes look at the Terminator 6 cast and crews shoot in Hungary:

Youve heard it from Arnold Schwarzenegger himself, another Terminator is coming! The video from the Hungarian National Film Fund opens with Tim Miller gushing about how great its been working in the studio in Budapest. Schwarzenegger then makes an appearance to talk about how hes worked there before in the late 80s but it's improved since then more studios and technology available.

More importantly, as he speaks in one shot, he looks to be filming a scene with an adorable dog. Dogs have a certain significance in the Terminator universe. You may recall that the Resistance used sniffer dogs to identify Terminators. The clip also shows Arnold Schwarzenegger reuniting with Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor. Hamilton is returning to play her badass character for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991.

The video then turns its appreciation to film producer and Hungarian native Andy Vajna, who served as an executive producer on past projects from the franchise -- including Terminator Salvation and the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; he also worked on the second and third Terminator films.

Throughout the video, you can spot some of the other main cast members of Terminator 6 hard at work, such as Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes, who will play two new leads in the upcoming film named Grace and Dani Ramos, respectively. Additionally, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.Ds Gabriel Luna will play the new Terminator, and has been mentored by Arnold Schwarzenegger in preparation.

Its an exciting little sneak peek at the upcoming film, though it seems to serve more as a commercial for the Hungarian studio they shot at more than anything. It does incite some intrigue from fans and gets us excited for more news to come leading up to the action flicks November release.

Terminator 6 will ignore the most recent three films -- Rise of the Machines, Salvation, and Genisys -- and move forward the story established by James Cameron in the first two films, which were arguably the strongest of the bunch. Cameron is returning for the first time since the second film as producer and has brought along Linda Hamilton as well, now a seasoned warrior," reminiscent of Jamie Lee Curtis recent return to the Halloween franchise last year.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will be playing T-800 again, and has teased the potential of playing the human character who was the basis of the Terminator prototype, though he might have been throwing us off with ideas.
