Mile Morales may be the star of the show in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but he's far from the only Spider-hero popping up in the movie. Miles will have several allies assisting him as he gets the hang of being a superhero, including the cartoonish Spider-Ham, or as he's known as a civilian, Peter Porker. With just a few weeks to go until Into the Spider-Verse's release, Sony has released a video highlighting Spider-Ham as a humorous take on the old-school Spider-Man theme song plays.
Voiced by stand-up comic and former Saturday Night Live writer John Mulaney, Spider-Ham looks to be one of the most entertaining parts of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That's to be expected if you pair an anthropomorphic superhero pig alongside a bunch of "normal" human Spider-heroes. It also helps that Spider-Ham, along with his arachnid-themed abilities, is also gifted with the power of cartoon physics, as evidenced by him using an oversized mallet against Scorpion.
Accompanied by an altered version of the 1960s Spider-Man animated TV series theme song, this video does a good job of introducing Spider-Ham to folks who might not be familiar with his antics from the comic books. The only potentially disturbing part is that there's a moment where Spider-Pig is eating a hot dog. Here's hoping that's made up of beef rather than pork, otherwise we'll have to start calling him Cannibal-Ham.
Spider-Ham debuted in the comics in 1983's Marvel Tails Starring Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham #1 (that's a mouthful), hailing from a world populated by other Marvel-themed talking animals. He was originally a spider, but after being bitten by a radioactive, mentally unhinged pig scientist named May Porker, he turned into an anthropomorphic pig with spider powers. In recent years, Spider-Ham has appeared in comic book events like Spider-Verse and Secret Wars, as well as the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series.
Still, Spider-Ham is just one of the protagonists who will aid Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The teenager will also be joined by an older and disheveled Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir and Peni Parker. Together, they'll have to battle villains like Kingpin, The Prowler and The Green Goblin.
