The Avengers: Endgame Premiere Didnt Reveal If There Will Be A Post-Credits Scene

The Marvel Cinematic Universe changed the game for film franchises, most memorably with the standard inclusion of post credits scenes that would set up a future installment once the action of the current film had ended. So naturally, with the clock ticking down towards the release of Avengers: Endgame this weekend, theres a pretty big question looming in the air: will there be an ending tag for the end of the Infinity Saga? The answer, at the moment, is, maybe?

We say this because after last nights big Hollywood premiere of Avengers: Endgame, the credits were actually cut off. Instead of running those customary names of people that worked on the film, and their respective roles, the cast and directors went up to the stage of the Los Angeles Convention Center and delivered some heartfelt speeches.

Admittedly, thats not the answer that fans want to hear involving whether or not Avengers: Endgame ties up its 11 year journey of learning and betterment of oneself will have that last surprise. However, its not the first time that this sort of strategy was used.

In fact, going back as far as The Avengers in 2012, that film was shown at its very premiere without a post credits stinger. This left the audience, already primed to expect one or two extra moments, with the very same question we are asking today. So while no footage has been seen of any sort of coda to Avengers: Endgame, were totally thinking that its going to be in there. Its just behind a Marvel Studios secrecy wall that we havent seen past yet.

CinemaBlends own Eric Eisenberg was at the Hollywood premiere of Avengers: Endgame last night, on hand to take in the splendor himself for the films big night. Not only can he confirm that there was no post-credits scene, but he also gave the following reaction to the film on Twitter:

As for what to expect in this hypothetical, but still possibly absent, post credits scene to Avengers: Endgame? Well, theres a lot of ways it could go. We could see Peter Parkers first words after being restored to life in time to have his adventure in Phase 3s big finale, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Or, there might be some tease as to where Captain Marvel may go next in her adventures.

Perhaps Kevin Feige had someone shoot a Shang Chi teaser with their iPhone and a special lens, with that footage being tweaked in the editing bay as we speak. The big point is, we dont know. But thats part of the fun with going to see a Marvel Cinematic Universe film on opening weekend, as when any storys door closes it tends to open the window to the future. We dont have long to wait, as Avengers: Endgame lands on our collective cinematic doorstep on Thursday night. So theres still time for you get a couple of the vital films to watch before heading out into your schedule.

Why Nick Fury Contacted Captain Marvel In Avengers: Infinity War, According To Kevin Feige

After aiding Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron and helping the superhero team set up their new base in upstate New York, former S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury disappeared from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for three years, and there was no official indication when we would next see him in the present day. Both he and Maria Hill finally returned earlier this year in the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene, though their appearances were short-lived due to Thanos snapping his Infinity Stones-powered fingers. Before being erased from existence, Fry successfully activated a spruced-up pager displaying the Captain Marvel insignia, foreshadowing Carol Danvers' arrival to the MCU. Regarding why Fury rushed to do this, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says it's because he knows Carol's incredible power will be needed. As Feige explained:

She is more powerful than any character we've introduced thus far. So that alone tells you that there's a reason Nick hit that button at the end [of Infinity War], when he realized that they were up against something far bigger than they had ever been up against before. And having her on your side is hopefully going to change the balance of power in a way that they desperately need.

We'll have to wait and see how Nick Fury meeting Carol Danvers and stepping into the world of superheroes and aliens went down in Captain Marvel, but needless to say that Fury will see in the movie just how powerful Carol is and realize that there will come a day when he'll need her help again. That day finally came in Avengers: Infinity War, because while Fury likely didn't know why people were suddenly turning to dust all around him, he knows that a crisis like that calls for a heavy-hitter, and thankfully he managed to activate that pager before also disappearing. Heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor made it out of Infinity War intact, but as Kevin Feige told EW, having Carol on their side will help tip the scales in their favor in Avengers 4, though it will be rough going.

Of course, it's worth remembering that Nick Fury has dealt with plenty of crises over the last two decades, chief among them being Loki and the Chitarui invading New York in The Avengers and Ultron's attack on Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Which begs the question of why Fury didn't activate the pager during those events. One fan theory posits that during Captain Marvel, Fury somehow obtains knowledge of the future and knows that the pager should only be broken out for a specific event, hence why it could be interpreted that Fury looked more determined than shocked in the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene. Whether this is true or not, Fury made the right call alerting Carol Danvers, and hopefully she'll prove to be the ace in the hole in Avengers 4.

Stephen King is never shy with his opinions. Just ask The Shining. But the good news is he thinks the new Pet Sematary movie is "fucking great!" This is the second movie to adapt his 1983 horror novel, following the 1989 film.

Critics have already seen the 2019 Pet Sematary and the reactions have been very positive. King seems to agree, particularly appreciating the maturity of the film:

Its fucking great! Its a really good movie. Its a grown-up, adult kind of movie. Its not like 12 semi-clad teens get killed in a summer camp. In this particular time frame, you know, thereve been several movies that have been successful. Horror movies like Jordan Peeles Get Out last year. And then I think when Us opens, I think its gonna be big. I think its gonna be huge. Those are like adult-type fantasies.

Stephen King must've shared those quotes a while before EW posted them, since by now Us has come out and it was indeed big -- with a bigger-than-expected opening. Horror is huge right now. Pet Sematary isn't expected to have a huge box office opening opposite Shazam! but it should pull in respectable numbers. The strong word-of-mouth can't hurt.

Stephen King also reiterated he's OK with the 2019 Pet Sematary changing one aspect of the film -- which was already revealed in the trailer so it's not really a spoiler -- that the older girl is resurrected this time and not the little boy.

Its something different. They did a good job. Boy, I saw all the stuff that came online when people realized that it was Ellie rather than Gage that got run over in the road, and Im thinking like, Man, these people Its so nuts. You can take Route 301 and go to Tampa, or you could take Route 17 and go to Tampa. But both times, youre gonna come out at Tampa! [Laughs] You know what Im saying? It didnt change anything for me. I thought, Okay, I understand why they did it, because its maybe easier to work with a zombie when shes a little girl, [rather] than a toddler.

Stephen King said, in general, he's fine with stories changing details -- if, in his opinion, it works for the story:

Im really kind of mercenary about all this. My idea is, If it works, its golden. If it doesnt work, you know, Jesus Christ, why did you change it? I mean, Ive seen changes in stuff thats been done to my work where I just throw up my hands and I say, Why? Why did you do that? You had a book. You had a blueprint you couldve gone by.

It's true. There are good Stephen King adaptations, bad Stephen King adaptations, and a whole lot in between with a mix of both in the same project.
