A Documentary About The Final Blockbuster In America Is In The Works

If you can remember the time before Netflix, finding a movie for the evening took a little more effort than a good long scroll from the comfort of your couch. A trip to your local Blockbuster was once a regular pastime, as movie fans strolled along the many shelves to make the perfect choice to take home. Nowadays, the mention of the movie rental store only brings a feeling of nostalgia for the defunct business, but the existence of Blockbuster Video stores isn't completely extinct. Despite the last two Alaska Blockbusters closing their doors a few weeks ago, one final Blockbuster stands in Bend, Oregon. Two documentary filmmakers, Taylor Morden and Zeke Kamm. are currently working to tell the story of sole video store in a time where streaming is king.

The filmmakers recently started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $20,000 to complete the project titled The Last Blockbuster and they have raised a little under $2,000 so far for a film they hope to release in May 2019. They also expressed their desire to release the film before the store possibly goes out of business. The Last Blockbuster will tell the story of the employees, customers and people of the Bend Blockbuster, while also highlighting the people who are traveling great distances to see this last remaining store. Taylor Morden and Zeke Kamm have spent nine months interviewing people in Bend, when the franchise still had nine locations opened.

Blockbuster has been in trouble since 2010, when it was forced to file for bankruptcy as Netflix and Redbox gained huge momentum. Just 4 years ago, when the company announced that the stores would be closing for good, there were 50 existing locations. The stores quickly became a lot more than a novelty, but the property does still have somewhat of a presence. Its partnership with Dish allows for satellite subscribers to have streaming access to new releases.

For those who remember regularly utilizing Blockbuster, it might be a strange concept that this last store now acts like a museum to a ghost of entertainment past. There are some interesting discussions to be had about the disappearance of physical media, and this documentary would allow for them to be explored. How does the disappearance of Blockbuster and the rise of streaming services affect a generation, and what makes the town of Bend the last monument of the home entertainment chain?

When The Black Widow Movie Should Start Filming, According To David Harbour

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a truly fascinating place right now. Avengers: Endgame is just weeks away, and the future of the MCU is largely a mystery. Marvel Studios is keeping its plans close to chest for Phase Four, as releasing the next slate of films has the potential to spoil the events of Endgame. But there are a few developing projects to keep an eye out for, including the long-awaited Black Widow movie.

The Black Widow movie has been slowly coming together, as director Cate Shortland has been assembling her cast and crew. Joining Scarlett Johansson for her first Marvel solo flick is Stranger Things fan favorite David Harbour, who already dipped his toes into the superhero genre with Hellboy. Harbour recently revealed when Widow's movie might begin filming, saying:

I think its slated to start in June. I dont think they have it fully-boarded yet, but its a great character. Im really excited about it. The cast is fleshing out (with) Scarlett and Florence Pugh, I think they said. I know they were talking about Rachel Weisz. Theres some really great actresses.

Well, this is exciting. The casting process may still be under way, but it looks like Black Widow's movie may start production in the near future. June isn't all that far away, so it looks like the solo flick will end up being one of the first releases of Phase Four. As long as nothing goes awry, that is.

David Harbour's comments to Den Of Geek are sure to excite the rabid Marvel fanbase, who are eager to see Scarlet Johansson's signature Marvel character get her time in the sun. While little to no information has been shared regarding the movie's contents, development amping up and possible June filming makes it all seem much more real. And the movie is a long time coming.

Despite being an OG member of The Avengers and one of the biggest characters in the MCU, Black Widow has surprisingly not been given her own solo movie yet. Instead, Natasha Romanoff served as a supporting character in a variety of other projects, including Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But considering how mysterious and complicated the character is, she's still been underused in this capacity.

But that should change with her solo movie, although it's unclear what that project will contain. Black Widow is one of the surviving characters in Avengers: Endgame, but it seems possible that she might perish in the battle against Thanos. If that's the case, perhaps the solo movie will be a prequel, allowing for Widow's dark backstory to finally be fleshed out onscreen.

Black Widow will return to theaters when Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters on April 26th, and you can see David Harbour in Hellboy April 12th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

It has been years since Hollywood delivered a traditional Robin Hood adventure aimed at thrilling audiences. The industry has turned its collective attentions to superheroes these days, shelving the original hero -- who fights with his trusty bow and arrow. However, Robin of Loxley finally returns to cinemas later this month in Otto Bathurst's Robin Hood, and Lionsgate shared an exclusive clip with CinemaBlend to help get you excited for what's to come:

The upcoming Robin Hood casts Taron Egerton in the lead role, trading his Eddie the Eagle skies and his Kingsman suits and gadgets for the trademark hood and bow of the world's most famous archer.

In the clip shared above, we see Robin and his crew planning what sounds like, on the surface, a suicide mission. Literally, Jamie Dornan's character, Will Scarlet, says that any attempt at attacking the convoy that Robin is targeting would basically turn them into lambs for the slaughter.

Think that's going to stop Robin Hood from attempting the mission?

Don't bet on it. As the clip ends, he demands that a meeting be set up at Loxley Manor, so you can bet your bottom dollar that they will be going ahead with the job... likely setting up one of the better action set pieces in Otto Bathurst's pending adventure.

Stories of the outlaw Robin Hood date back to the 13th and 14th centuries, and they all follow a familiar path. Born from nobility, Robin is a warrior who chooses to fight on behalf of the common man. "Rob from the rich and give to the poor" is a popular mantra associated with Robin Hood, and various films over the years have played up that mythology for the entertainment of many.

The new movie Robin Hood will serve as a new origin story for the classic hero (in fact, at one point, this movie worked from a script titled Robin Hood: Origins). And Taron Egerton seems like the perfect choice to embody the swashbuckling hero for a modern age. The original trailer for Robin Hood showed how Otto Bathurst would mix period landscapes and contemporary action, almost in a Guy Ritchie approach. He also landed some incredible actors to surround Egerton in his starring role.

Though not featured in the above exclusive clip, Robin Hood will co-star Jamie Foxx in the role of Little John, Robin's best friend and the leader of the Merry Men. Eve Hewson assumes the love-interest role of Maid Marian, though as we can see, she'll be in on the action.

And in the final bit of casting that has us incredibly excited for this feature, Robin Hood lured Ben Mendelsohn to play the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham. Sure, it's typecast to put Mendelsohn in your villain role. But seeing him as the Sheriff is too delicious to pass up.
