The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a hot streak with Phase Three, as every single installment in the massive franchise has been a success. And while all eyes are on what The Russo Brothers will do to complete the narrative with Avengers: Endgame, there's another origin story arriving before that comes: Captain Marvel. Starring Oscar winner Brie Larson as the title character, the upcoming blockbuster will be a period piece that is set both in space and here on Earth.
As usual, Marvel has been keeping security very tight surrounding Captain Marvel, and keeping the movie's secrets ahead of its release. But information has been slowly and methodically revealed, and now it appears we may know the blockbuster's runtime. Because according to online ticket sellers, Captain Marvel is clocking in at 2 hours and 10 minutes.
This information comes to us from the AMC website, which lists the film's reported runtime alongside the rest of Captain Marvel's information. It's unclear if this is an error or an accidental leak, but it seems that we know how long audiences will spend with Brie Larson's Carol Danvers when she finally arrives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it's a respectable chunk of time.
130 minutes has become a fairly standard time for a Marvel origin movie. If you look at other origin stories in Phase Three, both Black Panther and Spider-Man: Homecoming came in at around the same time. T'Challa's Wakandan adventure clocked in at 134 minutes, while Peter Parker's Queens-based movie was 133 minutes. In fact, the only origin movie that has had a shorter runtime in recent memory is Ant-Man, with Peyton Reed keeping his franchise running a bit snappier in pace.
Giving Carol Danvers over 2 hours for her debut makes a great deal of sense, since there's plenty of material to cover throughout the course of Captain Marvel. There's some high concepts at work in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's upcoming movie, so there needs to be enough time to flesh them all out. The trailers indicate that the story may jump around in time, as Brie Larson's character attempts to navigate her fractured memories. Add in her adventures in space and the inclusion of MCU favorites like Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, and there's a ton of Marvel goodness in store for moviegoers.
Of course, there are still a number of months before Captain Marvel flies into theaters in April. As such, it's possible that the possible runtime of the movie isn't correct, and Disney might release updated information. But given the studio's track record with the last few movies, smart money says Captain Marvel will end up at around the same runtime. Only time will tell.
