Adam Driver Admits He Knew Where Star Wars Episode IX Was Going From The Beginning

Today we don't even have so much as a title for Star Wars Episode IX that might give us a hint of what we're in for when the movie arrives at the end of the year. We don't know what we're going to see, but at least one person does, as Adam Driver recently revealed that he's had one piece of information about the end of the trilogy since back when it started. According to Driver...

With Star Wars, I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that's where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that.

Driver's comment, that he has known where it was all going, would certainly seem to indicate there's been a method to the Star Wars madness all along. All indications had been that this new Star Wars trilogy was being handled like a relay race, with writer and director J.J. Abrams given more or less free reign to write Star Wars: The Force Awakens, before handing things off to Rian Johnson to do the same with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

However, this comment to Deadline would indicate that there was some idea where this trilogy was going back when it started. That doesn't mean that every plot detail along the way had already been devised, but there certainly seems that there was some sort of an idea where things would end up back then, otherwise, Adam Driver couldn't have known.

Of course, Driver also says he only has "one piece" of information, so it's possible that he may only know part of the end of the story. He doesn't specifically say what that piece is in regards to, it's easy to assume that he may know the final fate of Kylo Ren in Star Wars Episode IX, but he stops short of actually saying that. It's also possible that the "one piece of information" is actually just the ending of the entire trilogy, so he may know the fate of everybody.

One assumes that Adam Driver got his information from producers Kathleen Kennedy and/or JJ. Abrams, and while Abrams is now directing Episode IX that wasn't always supposed to be the case. The final episode of the trilogy was originally going to be in the hands of Colin Trevorrow, so unless Trevorrow had already worked out an ending, that J.J. Abrams has decided to keep, it would seem that Lucasfilm has known from the beginning where this whole thing would end.

The rest of us have pretty much exactly 11 months to wait to find out how all this ends. Star Wars Episode IX will hit theaters December 20.

It's been more than two years since James Bond last shot his way onto the silver screen, with Spectre acting as the 24th film in the 007 canon. During the interim, a lot of talk has focused around who would direct the next film, whether Daniel Craig would be returning to the role for a fifth installment, and if we'd be seeing it any time soon. Well, we've got some definite answers to all of those questions, as the tentatively titled Bond 25 has officially been set for release on October 25th, 2019 in the UK. Here in the States, we'll be getting the film two weeks later, on November 8th.

As previously discussed but now officially confirmed, Daniel Craig and Danny Boyle will, in fact, be working together to bring Bond 25 to the screen. Along for the ride is frequent Boyle collaborator and screen writer John Hodge, who will bring the unique brand of wordsmithing he brought to such classics as Shallow Grave and Trainspotting to the world of international espionage. With the team set, and a production start date of December 3, 2018 in the pipeline, this film is about to become a reality.

The road to Bond 25's current state has been long and hard. With director speculation hitting a pitch as fervent as whether Daniel Craig would actually slash his wrists before considering returning, the film's fortunes were uncertain--at least with Craig as the lead. Regardless, as the project's 2019 home drew closer, Craig's involvement became more secure, leading to an official announcement during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Boyle's move of hiring Hodge to work on the script basically confirmed his involvement without outright announcing it was a done deal.

If that wasn't enough, the distribution rights to Bond 25, and the franchise at large, have been up for grabs for some time. This made for some even more interesting drama, as everyone from Warner Bros to Apple had a hankering for a piece of spy pie. With Variety's recent reporting of the film's status, the distribution picture has become a lot clearer, and just as interesting. Domestically, MGM will release Bond 25, with franchise newcomer Universal Studios taking up the distribution rights for the international portion of the film's release. So, when you see the Universal logo unfurl before the latest film's gun barrel, don't think you're watching some shoddy bootleg.

Over the 50-plus years the James Bond franchise has operated, the anticipation for the creative team behind each film has always been the first signs of Bond Fever. Now with Bond 25 firmly planted on a trajectory towards production and release, the next questions will be who else is returning from the Sam Mendes fray, what new additions will be cast, and what the hell is the title going to be? All will be revealed between now and Bond 25's October 25th, 2019 release date in the UK, and in terms of film production, that's all the time in the world.

Behind-the-scenes drama hardly uncommon when shooting a movie, but Solo: A Star Wars Story's was particularly notable, as last summer, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller exited the movie due to creative differences with Lucasfilm. Ron Howard was then hired as their replacement and oversaw the rest of principal photography and the extended reshoots. While Howard did implement a few changes upon boarding Solo, there have been conflicting reports about just how much the movie changed under Howard's supervision. Now one person supposedly associated with the Solo shoot claims that Howard ended up shooting his scenes using the exact same script that Lord and Miller used.

According to an actor who spoke anonymously with Vulture about Solo: A Star Wars Story's troubled production, when Ron Howard came aboard, there weren't any changes made to the script. Howard reportedly shot "scene for scene do-overs" of what Phil Lord and Chris Miller had shot during their time on the project. Assuming this unconfirmed information is correct, that means dialogue-wise, Solo will closely resemble or be an exact duplicate of the Lord and Miller version of the movie. This is in sharp contrast with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's reshoots, which saw Tony Gilroy penning new dialogue and directing entirely new sequences for the first Star Wars spinoff movie. This actor also stated that Howard only used parts of the same Solo sets that Lord and Miller used.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller departed Solo: A Star Wars Story last June, approximately 75% of the way through principal photography. Publicly, both the duo and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy have attributed the directorial shakeup to conflicting creative visions. But according to reports that came out shortly after the news of Lord and Miller's exit broke, specific issues during their time on Solo included them filming the movie as more of a comedy and butting heads with screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. This unidentified actor also claims that it took Lord and Miller would usually demand more than 30 takes of a scene, whereas Ron Howard only asked for two or three. Nevertheless, if this individual is to be believed, it sounds like Lord and Miller's influence will still be felt through the script, which lines up with what Donald Glover said about Ron Howard not really altering the vision for the movie.

Of course, even if this claim about the Solo: A Star Wars Story script not being changed is true, don't think that means Ron Howard didn't put his own spin on the movie. Perhaps the biggest change that came under Howard's tenure was recasting the character Dryden Vos. Although Michael K. Williams has completed all his scenes as the "half human, half mountain lion" when Lord and Miller were directing, Williams was unable to make Howard's reshoots due to scheduling conflicts with another project. As a result, Howard brought Paul Bettany in to take over as Dryden Vos, who was turned into a full human.

Solo: A Star Wars Story blasts its way into theaters on May 25, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller are being credited as executive producers for their work on the movie.
