Shazam! Star Zachary Levi Is Proud Of The Movies Diversity

There are a lot of things that anyone involved in the production of Warner Bros Shazam! can signal as being proud of. With its deft mix of horror and comedic tones, as well as its continued revitalization of the DC Comics canons film branch, the movie has been well received by critics and fans alike, and one of the films stars, Zachary Levi, knows it as well as anyone!

But when it comes to what hes particularly proud of in director David F. Sandbergs comic caper, its the wide breadth of diversity thats on display in the film. Zachary Levi explained his position in the following remarks during a recent interview:

And such an incredibly diverse and beautiful rainbow of diversity in that family, ethnically, but also one kid being disabled and all of them being foster kids. I have never in my life seen a movie, even not something that I haven't been a part of, that is so inclusive of so many groups of people that have not felt included. So I was like, 'This is gold. I'm so stoked. I'm so stoked that this is the heartbeat of what this movie is.' So it's an honor. It genuinely, is an honor. And it's been so cool being on social media and seeing so many people who have felt that, and felt seen, finally. Foster kids or people who were in the foster system, are now adults and out of it, or kids that are in right now. And them feeling seen.

At the heart of Shazam! is the story of the foster family, with its children of various ages coming from various ethnic backgrounds, and in the case of Jack Dylan Grazers Freddy Freeman, possessing a physical disability. Rather than showcasing a uniform example of diversity, the casting of the various family members was a truer portrait of diversity than most films get to show, and its clearly exciting for Zachary Levi to see that this is something thats helped moviegoers identify with the film.

Whats even better is the fact that when you look at the marketing for Shazam!, it doesnt oversell the idea of the familys diversity as a marketing point. Which only makes the big spoilery reveal in the films third act all the more exciting, as the efforts that went into that particular scenes production also required the same sort of diverse casting of characters, but on another level.

During his talk with Comicbook.com, Zachary Levi continued to praise the progressive portrayal of Billy Batson and his foster family in Shazam!, with his ultimate point being the following:

If we can do anything in this world, I hope that we can always be, again, looking at people and saying to them, even just in the way we treat them, 'I see you. I see you and I value you. And you're worthy of living the life that you're living.'

As Shazam! is looking to be fast tracked for a sequel in the near future, that message of acceptance, value and representation is likely to continue in the DCEU. Should that be the case, the comic franchise will only rise in personal value, as its efforts to reach out to a more diverse crowd of moviegoers will have been more than worth their inclusion the first time around.

The marketing for Avengers: Endgame has been so secretive that we can probably summarize everything we know about this movie in a few short sentences. Marvel and the Russo Bros. want to replicate the moviegoing experience before the internet existed, which means going into a movie as spoiler-free as possible. But the internet DOES exist and in response to a lack of official details, fans have created and shared their theories about Endgame, some of which are close to the truth but are never 100% correct.

Endgame fan theories have been spreading like wildfire over the last few months as fans try to connect the dots from trailers, set photo leaks, and whatever else their imaginations can come up with. Some popular fan theories include the use of time travel, who might be a Skrull, and what exactly will happen to Captain America. Fan theories can be fun to create and read, but how close do fans actually get to predicting the movie?

According to the Russo Bros., fans have gotten close in some instances, but no one has ever predicted exactly what is going to happen in any of their Marvel movies. The duo detailed their thoughts on fan theories during a press interview with Jake Hamilton. Here's what they said:

Anthony Russo: Here's the thing, the fans are so passionate and they spend such a long time living with these characters, thinking about these characters, and they're using their imaginations to follow where these stories could possibly go. Sometimes they're wildly off, sometimes they're kinda next door to what might happen. ... Here's the thing, nothing's ever THAT close. You can get kinda close, but it's never exactly.Joe Russo: Our mission's always to surprise people. So we try to make really surprising choices.

Sorry, to break it to those who want Ant-Man to jump up Thanos' butt and explode him from the inside, but you are only sort of correct.

It's not that surprising to learn that no one is a psychic and has figured out what happens in Endgame. The stars of the film have said it's impossible to guess what happens. The people who make these movies wouldn't be doing their job if they weren't able to surprise people like they did with the ending of Avengers: Infinity War. That being said, I bet that there are some theories that are close to the target, but we won't know which ones until Endgame finally arrive in theaters later this month.

Ghidorah Is Terrifying In New Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Image

Godzilla's been keeping a low profile in the MonsterVerse since 2014, but this spring, he's jumping back into action for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This time around, the giant reptile is colliding with Rodan, Mothra and, arguably the most dangerous of them all, the three-headed King Ghidorah. That last monster is described as Godzilla's "ultimate nemesis," meaning he needs to be especially terrifying, and thankfully, the latest picture of Ghidorah in King of the Monsters gives off just that kind of vibe.

King Ghidorah first appeared in 1964's Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster and has been a regular player in Japan's monster movie scene, but Godzilla: King of the Monsters marks his first appearance in American cinema. Thanks to the wonders of CGI and motion capture, Ghidorah is the most fearsome he's ever looked. Granted, you don't want to be near any of these monsters, but Ghidorah is definitely one of the ones that means to threaten humanity, not protect it.

Along with King Ghidorah looking extra ferocious, the other interesting element from this Godzilla: King of the Monsters photo is the aircraft headed towards the monster. As we've previously seen in Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, there isn't that much humanity can do to put up a fight against these Titans, and an aircraft heading towards one of the flying monsters is likely to be destroyed. That said, this particular plane looks more technologically advanced than what the U.S. military is usually packing. One Reddit user noted that it looks like the Super X, a vehicle from The Return of Godzilla that was used against Godzilla, as its missiles could disrupt the nuclear reactions within the beast.

I'm guessing that this aircraft is something that Monarch built to study or even combat the Titans. However, given that there's a moment in the most recent Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer where one of the Titans, which we can now assume is King Ghidorah, is chasing after an aircraft that looks like the one above, there's a good chance that the people on board will soon meet their demise. When Ghidorah is defeated, it's going to be at Godzilla's hands.

Besides featuring four towering monsters, Godzilla: King of the Monsters' human cast includes Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, O'Shea Jackson Jr. David Strathairn, Aisha Hinds and Zhang Ziyi. Michael Dougherty directed and co-wrote the script with Zach Shields. And for those of you worried about Godzilla's fate in this sequel, not to worry, because he'll be back next year to clash with an infamous gorilla in Godzilla vs. Kong.

A recent commercial for Australian tourism revitalized interest in the 80s classic Crocodile Dundee. Now, it looks like that goodwill is going to be used for something, but probably not what you were thinking. Paul Hogan, who played the title role in the 1986 film and a pair of sequels, is now set to star in The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee! However, this new movie isn't a Crocodile Dundee sequel, but instead a comedy that will see Paul Hogan play himself, or at least a fictionalized version of himself, as his career and reputation for playing the iconic character gets systematically destroyed just as he's about to receive a great honor.

The plotline of The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee! will see Paul Hogan being honored with a knighthood for his contributions to comedy. However, during a six week period immediately before the ceremony, Hogan will see his name and reputation destroyed. It's implied by Deadline that Hogan himself will be responsible for the chain of events that transpire, that screws everything up right before his knighthood, but that part is far from clear.

While fans of Crocodile Dundee will certainly be happy to see Paul Hogan back on the big screen in this Dundee-adjacent project, it's probably not the movie many were hoping for. Earlier this year a commercial for Australian tourism that aired during the Super Bowl took the form of a movie trailer for a nonexistent Son of Dundee movie that saw Danny McBride play the title role, but also included cameos in the lead up from basically every Australian currently working in Hollywood. The ad went over so well that many have wanted to see it become a real movie. If you didn't see it, check it out now.

While it's unlikely we'll ever see Son of Dundee become a thing, it is possible that one aspect of that ad could become part of The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee! Paul Hogan does say that he's "been honored to have many of my friends and colleagues, whose work I adore, agree to join us for this hilarious new adventure." Which implies that the new film could have a lot of names we know appearing in the movie. Perhaps we'll get some of the people who appeared in the commercial, like Chris Hemsworth, or those who appeared in the promotion, like Margot Robbie and Hugh Jackman, appearing in this film, even if they, like Hogan, end up playing themselves.
