James Cameron Reveals Principal Shooting Is Finally Done For Avatar 2 And 3

James Cameron has been talking about making sequels to Avatar since just after the first film became the highest grossing movie ever. However, it's been a conversation for so long that you'd be forgiven for just believing it was never actually going to happen. And yet, James Cameron just announced that principal photography, which is covering the first two of four planned Avatar sequels, has wrapped. In a video posted to social media, Cameron said...

Today we're capturing some stunt scenes, but our principal cast are all wrapped. Sam, Zoe, Sigourney, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, they're done now but they gave us incredible performances and I can't tell you how proud I am of the work that they did on these films.

It's almost shocking to hear that most of the shooting for the next two Avatar films is actually done. I've been writing about them, and whether or not they would actually happen, for my entire time here at CinemaBlend but the conversation dates back nine years to when the original film arrived on screen. The sequels have been coming for so long that it's unbelievable to think that in just over two years, December of 2020, the first one will actually be here.

Part of the reason that the sequels took so long is that James Cameron's plans just kept getting grander and grander. Originally, Cameron planned for the entire Avatar story arc to be a trilogy, as so many film franchises are. This would have meant two more movies were on the way. However, two sequels became three, and then three became four, and now the plan is to have five Avatar movies total when all is said and done.

Whatever else might happen, it does look like we'll get those first three films, as the filming that James Cameron has been doing has been focused on the next two films in the series. The plan is to go back, after Avatar 3 is released and go into production on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 together, just as is being done on 2 and 3 now.

Very little is known about the various sequels, beyond the fact that the second one will primarily take place in the oceans of Pandora. Some rumored titles have leaked that give the film the subtitle The Way of Water. If the titles are accurate, then Avatar 3 might then be called The Seed Bearer, which isn't a title that means anything in particular now, but might make sense after we see Avatar 2. We do know that Avatar 2 will pick up many years after the first film, with Neytiri and Jake Sully having had children who will become major parts of the story.

I honestly had sort of left the Avatar movies in the rear view, then I got to experience the Flights of Passage attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom last year and I'm sort of excited for the sequels again. We'll see if that's still the case in just over two years.

New John Wick: Chapter 3 Clip Features John Asking Halle Berry For Help

Arguably the most famous actor joining the John Wick franchise for Chapter 3, a.k.a. Parabellum, is Halle Berry, who, like Keanu Reeves, is playing a dog-loving assassin. Weve seen snippets of Berrys Sofia in the John Wick: Chapter 3 trailers, but now theres a new clip showing John asking for her help in the midst of his latest crisis.

John Wick: Chapter 3 picks up right after the events of Chapter 2, with the High Table about to send out a $14 million bounty on Johns head for killing Santino DAntonio. Its a good bet that by the time the above Chapter 3 scene occurs, assassins are already on the hunt for John, but as weve seen over two movies, hes quite resourceful at avoiding being killed. Somehow hes managed to seek refuge at the hotel being run by Sofia, who we already knew was an old friend of his.

However, times have changed since John and Sofia were last close, and she makes it clear to him that because shes management now, she cant go around shooting people like hes been doing. John assures her he just wants to talk to her old boss for guidance. Sofia doubts this will work out, because even if John doesnt kill this boss (Barada?), she suspects the boss will kill him and then her for allowing John to walk in.

As Sofia said in one of the John Wick: Chapter 3 previews, nothing is ever just a conversation with John, so even though he intends not to discharge a firearm for this meeting he wants, its a good bet bullets will start flying anyway. And when bullets start flying, bodies will inevitably drop, and John Wick has left a lot of carnage in his wake recently.

In any case, despite Sofias hesitance to help John out in this Chapter 3 clip, we know eventually shell cave and join him on his mission, although in another preview, she told him that after this, they are less than even. Still, at least itll be nice for John to finally have some backup, including Sofias vicious hounds.

Although Sofia isnt particularly jazzed to be teaming up with John Wick in Chapter 3, Halle Berry is unquestionably a fan of this action franchise, as we learned in March that she asked director Chad Stahelski for a part in Chapter 3. The script for the threequel hadnt even been written when Berry first approached Stahelski, but once it was completed, he got back in touch with her and she was still game to jump in.

Along with Halle Berrys Sofia, John Wick: Chapter 3 is also introducing characters like Mark Dacascos Zero, Angelica Hustons The Director, Asia Kate Dillons The Adjudicator, Jason Mantozoukas Tick Tock Man, Sad Taghmaouis The Elder and Robin Lord Taylors The Administrator. As far as familiar faces go, Ian McShanes Winston, Lance Reddicks Charon, Laurence Fishburnes Bowery King and John Leguizamos Aurelio are all back.

The Bohemian Rhapsody Cast Says Queen Deserves More Respect From Rock Fans

Quick, name the best rock band in history. Got your answer? We probably have a lot of Rolling Stones and Beatles answers. More than a few Led Zeppelin votes. Maybe even The Who. How far down do you think we go before you hit Queen? For some reason, they are not immediately thought of in a conversation like this, so when we interviewed the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody, we asked if Queen gets the respect that they deserved as a rock outfit, and co-star Gwilym Lee replied:

I don't know, perhaps not. Their music is just so universal. You hear it so often that I think the danger is that you take it for granted. And I think what's beautiful about this film is it actually forces you to address the idea of these songs being written for the first time, and what genius that took. They were the only band whose every member wrote a Number One single. They crossed all kinds of genres, all kinds of styles. And it's what gives their music such longevity.

As you will see now that Bohemian Rhapsody is in theaters, there was a time -- before we can remember -- when songs like "We Are The Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" were not global hits. And as Gwilym Lee, who plays Queen guitarist Brian May in the movie, points out, even the guys in Queen thought Freddie Mercury was off the mark in his songwriting... for a time.

One thing going against Queen in this sense is that they didn't limit themselves to traditional rock. "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Radio Ga Ga" have distinct disco elements to them. "Under Pressure" is practically pop. Ben Hardy, who plays Roger Taylor in the movie, went on to explain:

The fact that their music transcends genre is why maybe they're not quite pigeonholed like some of those rock bands are. They are amazing. But you know, they're very much like, that's their thing. They're a great rock and roll band. Whereas Queen's more than that.

And that's why they are able to stand the test of time and appeal to so many different audiences. Some may like the harder edge of Queen. Some may appreciate their melodic vocals. It's all on display in Bohemian Rhapsody.

The DC Extended Universe is a tricky place. While only a handful of blockbusters has been released to the public, there have been a ton of projects announced to be in development. As such, it's unclear when we'll see some of our favorite characters, including Henry Cavill's Superman/Clark Kent. Cavill has starred in the most DC movies to date, and he was recently asked when he'd be returning to the blue and red. While he doesn't have a concrete timeline, Cavill revealed he'd like to reprise his role ASAP, saying:

I can't answer that definitively right now. But I'm hoping sooner rather than later. I've been talking to certain people and hopefully, we're going to start talking to other people who are responsible for making those calls. And we shall see.

While it's unclear if Superman will return in a Man of Steel sequel or another big ensemble project like Justice League, Henry Cavill certainly seems dedicated to playing his role in the shared universe. Considering how wishy washy Ben Affleck has appeared to be in the last year, this will no doubt be a relief to all the DC fans out there.

Henry Cavill's comments to Fandango seem to indicate that he's sticking with the DCEU for the long haul. Considering Man of Steel ended up jump starting the entire shared universe, Cavill's comments are certainly comforting. Zack Snyder was eventually given the freedom to expand his version of the DC universe, resulting in the ambitious but critically mixed additions of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Superman has been a major focus of the movies thus far, so it's good to know Cavill is planning on putting the cape back on.

Unfortunately, not al the leading players of the DC Extended Universe seem as determined to stick around for the long haul. Ben Affleck seems to be distancing himself from his role as Batman, starting with stepping down from directing the character's first solo movie. It seems like we may only get one or two more appearances with Affleck as Bruce Wayne, so the studio is going to have to pivot in order to keep Batman on the silver screen.

There has been plenty of talk around Man of Steel's possible sequel in the past year or so, with fans eager to see Henry Cavill's Superman get another solo movie. Plenty of directors' names have been tossed around, so Henry Cavill's determination to fly another day will no doubt help this process.
