Kevin Feige Has Revealed One MCU Regret

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been running for 10 years, and from the outside, it looks like it's mostly gone off exactly as planned. However, the head of Marvel Studios admits there's at least one thing he wishes he'd done differently. Kevin Feige says that looking back on the various Marvel movies after the fact, he sees numerous things that could have been done differently, but one of those things, remarkably, has to do with how they handled Thor's eyebrows. I'll tell you one specific example I just thought of today and I laugh at it. Definitely, the one thing I would definitely do differently if I had to do it over again, is we would not have dyed Chris Hemsworth's eyebrows blonde in the first Thor. Because we were like, Thor is blonde! He has to be blond! And Hemsworth was great and awesome and pulled it off, but there are a couple of shots I watch and I'm like, oh my God, that poor guy, we made him freaking dye his eyebrows! That's ridiculous! And I can laugh about it now because Hemsworth is Thor and he doesn't need long hair, or a cape, or a hammer, or two eyeballs to be Thor.

One of the biggest criticisms that fans tend to have with superhero movies is that their favorite characters are not always portrayed on screen the way they are remembered from the comics. It turns out that this was a concern for Marvel Studios too, especially in the early days of the MCU, as Kevin Feige tells Uproxx the company felt it had to dye Chris Hemsworth's eyebrows to make him as blonde as possible.

Of course, now the mere idea that Thor even needed to be blonde in the first place seems silly. Chris Hemsworth has been a fantastic Thor and he's no less fantastic with short hair, even though the character is usually depicted with long hair. Certainly, if Thor hadn't been blonde in the first movie there would have been fans who took issue with it, there were some who took issue with Idris Elba's casting as Heimdall, but odds are they would have gotten over it after they actually saw Hemsworth's performance, as many did with Idris Elba.

It does show something of an extreme reaction to feel the need to dye a man's eyebrows, but at the time it surely seemed like it was necessary. Even Marvel let the preconceived notions of how the character should look dictate things. While that feeling has mostly remained intact over the years, Marvel has been more willing to break the molds that the comics created and let the film versions of the characters be different when it works best for the story.

There will surely be more things Kevin Feige wishes he did differently the longer the MCU moves forward, but overall, it seems like things are going pretty well. Avengers: Infinity War opens Friday.

Dark Phoenix Will Have More Than One Major Character Death

Many of todays movie trailers have certainly been known to cross the line and give away too much before audiences get a chance to buy a ticket. This happened in a big way during the marketing of Dark Phoenix when one trailer spoiled the death of Jennifer Lawrences Mystique at the hand of Sophie Turners Jean Grey.

No one slipped up. Director Simon Kinberg has said that he made the decision to reveal this early plot point in order show the high stakes the X-Men will be dealing with during the last film in the franchise. Mystique wont be the only character to say goodbye in Dark Phoenix either. Check out Kinbergs tease:

There are certainly other major casualties in this.

Looks like Dark Phoenix wont be messing around. The movie is set up with tragedy for the team and it will only continue as the film rolls along, perhaps with even more beloved characters kicking the bucket as the long-running franchise closes out and makes room for the comic title joining the MCU sometime in the future.

While it was a surprise to see Mystique die in the trailer, its no shock that the character was going to be killed off in this X-Men film. Jennifer Lawrence has been vocal about her distaste with being turned blue in the harrowing makeup process since 2011, and has reportedly wanted out of the franchise for some time. The actress already has a convenient exit with the Disney/Fox merger sure to change things up, but maybe that wasnt enough and she needed it to be official on screen.

Simon Kinbergs words to EW do beg the question: Who else is going to die? Will the franchise go so far as to kill off the franchises huge players, Charles Xavier and Magneto? Though James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are likely to be finishing off their time as these characters with Dark Phoenix, will their last moments be their deaths?

There are tons of other X-Men characters in play here who could see their demises as well -- such as Nicholas Hoults Beast, Evan Peters Quicksilver, Tye Sheridans Cyclops and Alexandra Shipps Storm. Considering J-Law was on the table to be killed off, who knows if theyll make it out either.

The movie already has the tough job of creating a satisfying conclusion to the Fox franchise that started with 2000s X-Men. The film has undergone massive reshoots and multiple release date shifts, and it may face the lowest earning opening weekend for the franchise to date, as The Secret Life of Pets 2 aims to be its biggest competition on its debut.

The movie follows the team as they venture on a space mission and Jean gets hit by a solar flare, leaving her with a new powerful burst of energy and powers to attempt to control. When she kills Mystique, the X-Men must figure out what to do about her: kill her or save her somehow? Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7.

Should Mark Hamill write the next Star Wars trilogy? He's excited for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and all the speculation it has already spawned, but he has been open with his frustrations with the sequel trilogy -- including that we never got a real Luke/Leia/Han reunion. Turns out, he had an idea that could've at least partially given fans (and himself) that gift before the end of the Skywalker Saga.

Mark Hamill said he pitched his idea to J.J. Abrams when they were making Episode VII, The Force Awakens, as an alternate way for Luke to make a surprise late-in-the-film appearance while still managing to get the OG gang together again.

Everyone talks about the shock of realizing that, on Force Awakens, I don't come in until the last page. A bigger shock to me was them killing Han Solo before Luke could ever see his best friend again. I mean, it might be selfishly motivated, but I said, 'Holy cow, that's a real missed opportunity!' Even having the three of us together, even briefly.

So Mark Hamill told THR what he had previously pitched to The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams:

I pitched [J.J.] Abrams on the idea of, 'You can still have me come in at the very end, but how about this? How about Leia's trying to contact me telepathically, she gets frustrated because there's no answers, so she rushes to the new Death Star. And she almost gets there but she gets stopped by two Stormtroopers and, just before she's abducted, one Stormtrooper turns to the other one, blows him away, pulls off his helmet and says "Hi, sis, I'm here to rescue you."' I said, 'It'll blow the roof off the joint!' I'm still in it at the very end. And I think it's more effective to have people who have more of a history with Han Solo witness his dead, and be unable to stop it -- his wife, the mother of his child, his best friend -- instead of two characters who have known him what, 20 minutes?

Well, you'll get no argument from me. J.J. Abrams has already taken heat for The Force Awakens showing Leia hug Rey after Han's death instead of Han's other BFF Chewbacca. 'Cause it's true, Rey barely knew Han Solo. It would've had more impact to see Luke, Leia, and Chewie's emotional reactions. Abrams has shared regrets about the blocking of that particular scene, since it did come across as "a slight" to Chewie, which was not intended.

So it sounds like Mark Hamill had issues with both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, since he has also been candid with his frustration on the direction of Luke's storyline in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Even if Episode IX somehow cobbles a Skywalker reunion together, it's too late for it to have the same kind of impact it could've had in The Force Awakens. Han Solo was killed by his son Ben/Kylo in The Force Awakens, Luke died in The Last Jedi, and Leia actress Carrie Fisher died in real life. Luke is still returning somehow in The Rise of Skywalker -- perhaps the title is a hint there -- and Leia will be shown in previously unused footage. But Star Wars lost its chance to get the original trio back.

Mark Hamill recently posted a photo hugging Harrison Ford, showing his own version of a Luke/Han reunion. He's really laying it on thick, but the frustration is shared by fans. That said, unlike Hamill, we as fans don't know what The Rise of Skywalker has in store in terms of Skywalker family reunions. The teaser trailer already showed Carrie Fisher's Leia in another mid-hug moment, but maybe we can hope for even more from J.J. Abrams, who has learned from his experience on The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters December 20, as one of the many films to look forward to watching on the big screen in 2019.
