Why Blumhouses Halloween Is Rated R

The MPAA rating system is a crucial aspect of film production, and ultimately determines what type of an audience will be admitted to each new film. For the horror franchise, this can be an especially interesting process, as studios must debate if they want a larger demographic of moviegoers, or an unencumbered and terrifying flick. Blumhouse has had a ton of success in the horror genre lately, and the studio is now turning its head to one of the classics: Halloween. Jamie Lee Curtis is back as Laurie Strode, and the upcoming canon-breaking sequel has been officially rated R, but why?

Halloween's R-rating comes from the MPAA, which makes the ultimately judgment call. The official reasoning for this decision is as follows:

Horror violence and bloody images, language, brief drug use and nudity.

Looks like we're going to get all the tried and true tropes of the horror genre when Blumhouse's Halloween arrives this October. Michael Myers made history by hunting down horny babysitters, and it looks his MO is not going to change much when he arrives for the upcoming sequel. And the town Haddonfield will probably never be the same.

A hard R rating for Halloween will likely excite the hardcore fans out there, as well as horror enthusiasts in general. While there are plenty of quality slashers that are rated PG-13, the less extreme rating often means that the violence, scares, and language have to be edited. After three F-bombs an R-Rating is issues, which can be difficult considering that people swear when faced with life or death situations.

Halloween's R rating also makes sense given the franchise's history. Every single installment in the long running property has been rated R, allowing Michael Myers to murder his victims in a variety of gruesome ways. Fans are eager to see the iconic villain once again brandish a kitchen knife and attack Laurie Strode and the rest of the characters. Now Halloween can go HAM on the kills, and allow the teenagers of Haddonfield to make bad decisions before being promptly killed.

While the new Halloween may be rated R, it should be a lot less gory than the two most recent installments. Rob Zombie put his own spin on the franchise with two films in the 2000's, and brought up the violence and overall darkness to a ten. Danny McBride, writer of the new movie, has stressed how Blumhouse's version won't be nearly as gory. Instead, it will focus on suspense, just as John Carpenter did with his original 1978 classic.

James Bonds Naomie Harris Doesnt Think 007 And Moneypenny Have Slept Together

When the James Bond reboot film series brought back the character of Moneypenny, formerly an agent known as Eve and played by Naomie Harris, it felt like something happened between the two after meeting in Skyfall. Yet by the time Spectre rolled around, Moneypenny was out of active service and had a boyfriend in the picture.

And if that wasnt enough information to confirm that James and Moneypenny hadnt taken the time to become closer than work associates, Harris made it perfectly clear that, in her opinion below, the two legendary operatives arent going to change history in Bond 25:

People always ask me if they slept together. I dont think they did. I think Moneypenny and Bond cant ever cross that line because theyre both so professional. Theres definitely something thats been bubbling underneath but the question is, Will it bubble over?'

The modern era of James Bond under Daniel Craig gave more than a casual suggestion that the two were about to sleep together. That shaving scene in Skyfall, with Moneypenny and James skirting the edge of their office relationship oh so carefully, certainly did a lot to hint that history would be changed yet again in the 007 franchise. And with Bond 25 currently set to see Daniel Craig return to shooting, and James in a relationship with Lea Seydouxs Dr. Madeline Swann since the end of Spectre, that taboo wont be broken in the near future.

Naomie Harris hypothesis has a lot of history on its side, as James Bond has always flirted with Moneypenny, but never consummated that flirtation. And as we see in that scene mentioned above, as well as in Harris interview with EW, the tension has always come from the two characters bantering right up to the edge of actually doing something.

In fact, it was pretty much a tradition for the original Bond franchise to see the two characters meet before Bonds mission briefing, volley some wishful thoughts of romantic splendor and then go their separate ways. Though we havent seen this as of late, considering Spectre saw Bonds big interaction with Moneypenny being over the phone, as he was investigating the antics of Blofeld and his SPECTRE associates.

As James Bond is lured back into action by Jeffrey Wrights Felix Leiter in Bond 25, we probably wont see that sort of scene in Daniel Craigs presumably final turn in the role. Which means we may have to wait for a new Bond, and possible a new Moneypenny, to see those familiar sparks fly again.

Whatever happens between 007 and Moneypenny, in Bond 25 and beyond, Naomie Harris has left her own mark on the role as shes been the first Moneypenny to be seen in the field, and the first to actually shoot James Bond. It's a level of behavior that will undoubtedly raise the bar for whomever steps into this characters position in the future.

Bond 25 is currently in production, and is scheduled to open on April 8, 2020.

At the climax of her career, 1989's When Harry Met Sally... came out and is still considered to be one of the best of all time for the genre. Recently, Ryan's son with Dennis Quaid, 26-year-old son Jack Quaid, admitted that he actually steered clear of his mom's famous role until recently because of one iconic scene. In his words:

I saw When Harry Met Sally for the first time recently. Guys, when your mother has one of the most famous orgasm scenes of all time, you do not jump to the film, OK? I saw it because I was doing a rom-com, and that's like the rom-com, and I watched it.

While it's understandably embarrassing to have a movie out there with your mom faking an orgasm in a busy New York restaurant in front of Billy Crystal, let's face it, he couldn't avoid the flick forever. The smart and hilarious When Harry Met Sally... is perhaps Meg Ryan's best film and most unforgettable role. Jack Quaid also revealed that he had a heartfelt reaction to finally witnessing Ryan's iconic role to Entertainment Weekly, continuing with:

Then afterwards I cried for so long, because I was so proud of her, and I immediately called her, and I'm like, 'I'm so sorry I missed this movie.' She's like, 'I've seen it like one time.' Anyway, that's my favorite of hers.

The 1987 film Innerspace, which stars both of his parents, is also a strange one for Jack Quaid to revisit. It's the movie where the pair met and ironically enough, one of the other main characters (played by Martin Short) shares his name, Jack. When speaking about his connection with Innerspace, Quaid said he does realize that he probably wouldn't have been born if Innerspace wasn't made, so he can't complain too much about that one. It's really rare to be able to see your parents at the height of their careers, but Quaid has a unique ability to because of their high-profile jobs.

Jack Quaid is currently an up-and-coming star who has nabbed supporting roles here and there since his first role as one of the tributes in 2012's The Hunger Games. This year he's also had small roles in Dwayne Johnson's Rampage and the animated film Smallfoot. In 2019, Quaid will make the transition into starring roles in the Amazon Prime television series The Boys and in romantic-comedy Plus One.

The Boys has Quaid starring in a superhero comic book adaptation created by the likes of Seth Rogen about a super-powered CIA squad tasked with keeping corrupted heroes in line. On the other hand, Plus One looks like a sweet love story about two longtime single friends who decide to brave a summer of weddings together as each other's plus ones. Neither of the projects have an official release date, but you can expect them both sometime in 2019.
