Deadpools Creator Actually Cried After Seeing Deadpool 2

Back in 2016, comic book creator Rob Liefeld got to watch as his lesser-known, foul-mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking character Deadpool, burst into the public conscious with an incredible solo film debut. The Merc with a Mouth captured the zeitgeist and next week Deadpool is getting a sequel that hopes to repeat the original's success. Deadpool 2 returns the anti-hero to the big screen and this time, he will be accompanied by some of Rob Liefeld's other creations: Domino and Cable as well as other X-Force members. So what did Rob Liefeld think about how well Deadpool 2 pulled it all off? Well, lets just say he got a little misty-eyed, take a look.

Tears of joy are about as ringing an endorsement as a movie can get. And from someone with such a personal attachment to the material as Rob Liefeld, they mean even more. Now I am really curious about the ending of Deadpool 2 and what sort of brilliant song choice closes the show. Rob Liefeld says that it's a nostalgic track, so I'm guessing it isn't the new Celine Dion song from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack (that still sounds weird to say). I also like that Rob Liefeld makes it very clear that he is using a metaphor here and not giving away some plane-landing plot point in the film.

It sounds like director David Leitch nailed it, and given the lightning-in-a-bottle nature of the first film, that is no small task. You have to be stoked for Rob Liefeld because if he likes it, there's a good chance a large portion of the fanbase will as well. If the early reactions are anything to go by, his tears were well earned. Even though he is a proud papa, seeing his characters brought to life so brilliantly, Rob Liefeld was worried those tears might be misinterpreted, as he explained on Twitter.

He's absolutely right that if he had been seen crying after watching Deadpool 2 there would have been tons of people wondering what is wrong with the film that would have Deadpool's creator so distraught. Fortunately they were tears of joy for a dream come true. The hardest thing for any sequel is living up to the original, especially when it comes to comedies, and Deadpool is definitely part comedy. So if that hurdle was cleared we have a lot to be excited for.

Rob Liefeld, who was something of a controversial figure in the comic book community for a time, is enjoying incredible success and recognition for his creations at the moment. In addition to Deadpool 2 and a future X-Force movie, Rob Liefeld has signed a deal with Netflix to create a new comic book cinematic universe using his Extreme Universe characters. That is probably a ways away but in the meantime audiences are clearly getting ready for Wade Wilson and the X-Force as Deadpool 2 is set to have a huge debut when it opens in theaters on May 18th.

One Star Wars: The Last Jedi Scene Mark Hamill Wishes Hadn't Been Cut

It's an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. With Disney now in charge of the beloved property, there is an abundance of new content being produced and released for its generations of fans. While Solo: A Star Wars Story is next up on the list, cinephiles are still reeling from the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson's subversive sequel challenged what we thought about the galaxy far, far away, and there were a ton of scenes left on the cutting room floor. One of them included Luke's emotional reaction to the news of Han Solo's death, and it turns out that Mark Hamill wishes that sequence made it into the film. He said,

Yes, of course because it shows Luke was putting on a facade in front of Rey and even Chewie, that he was embittered and sort of a broken man. And I think the fact that he could let his emotions out when he was by himself would have made an impact on the audience because it allowed them to grieve the loss of Han Solo just the way Luke felt it. But that always happens in films. You say, 'Oh, what about this scene where this happens or that happens?; because you want to give the fullest experience that you can. And like you say, it was brief enough that I was -- [chuckles] They had time for me to milk that big alien but to show any human emotion? Nah, we don't have time for that. But again it's not my call.

While there was plenty of great stuff that ended up cut from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, fans and actors alike seemed to miss Luke dealing with the news of his friend's death. The trio of heroes carried the original trilogy, and Han was obviously very close to Luke. Since Han's funeral wasn't included in The Last Jedi, it would have been a method for the character to be truly and collectively grieved. But ultimately the movie had to be cut down for runtime, and Luke's scene got the chop.

Mark Hamill's comments to IGN also point out that Rian Johnson and the director's had a job to do, and he understood that cuts had to be made in order for The Last Jedi to not run too long. It ultimately had a runtime of 152 minutes, which is no walk in the park all things considered. I'd argue it has enough to carry its runtime, but the myriad cuts made it possible.

It should be interesting to see where Solo: A Star Wars Story ultimately clocks in, since it no doubt has less dense material to cover. Much of the next standalone film's details are still very much a mystery, as the franchise keeps its cards close to the chest.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently available On Demand and for home purchase, and Solo: A Star Wars Story will arrive in theaters on May 25, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

While Andy Serkis has played numerous roles while wearing motion-capture pajamas, the one he will almost certainly be forever linked with is Gollum. The actor brought his Lord of the Rings performance back for the Hobbit movies, and now he's done so again, in something very different. In a new video, Serkis spoofs British Prime Minister Theresa May, performing her as Gollum in regards to the proposed Brexit deal. It's...weird. Check it out below.

Needless to say, this is a little disturbing. Seeing the voice of Gollum come out of a creature that looks like Gollum is one thing, but this is something else. Honestly, Andy Serkis dressed as Theresa May is already a bit uncomfortable to watch, but combining it with the voice makes the whole thing really wrong.Of course, in this case, that's sort of the point. The video is published to its very own YouTube Channel, called We Wants It, and it's a call for a People's Vote in regards to the recent deal to leave the European Union which Theresa May has negotiated on behalf of the United Kingdom. A lot of people are unhappy with the deal. Some don't want to leave the EU at all, while others that do support leaving don't like the specific terms of this deal. This has led to many calling for the people to have a voice on the deal by organizing a vote similar to the original Brexit vote.Although, more than simply calling for a vote, this video is clearly making some unflattering connections between Theresa May and Andy Serkis' Gollum. Gollum was obsessed with the One Ring to the point that it drove him completely mad. In the video, May's ring is the Brexit deal, and she's made to look equally insane. We see her completely driven to see the deal go through as is.She occasionally has bouts of a better nature fighting through, as Gollum and Smeagol fought inside Serkis' character in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. However, while Smeagol was able to be the dominant personality, at least for a while, in the movie, here, May is portrayed as being ultimately Gollum.Currently, the Brexit vote is planned to happen on Tuesday in the UK Parliment, though there is the possibility it could be delayed.While it's difficult to take the politics out of the thing, Andy Serkis' Gollum is still an incredibly impressive character. Even though we don't get the motion capture character laid in over the actor here, we almost don't need it. The look in Serkis' eyes is enough to make you see Gollum, not the actor or even the politician being spoofed.

While there will almost certainly be those who don't love this clip as much simply because they don't agree with the message, it's still a pretty good performance on its own. Whether or not the video will have any impact remains to be seen.

Mark Hamill returned to Star Wars, first to provide the voice of Darth Bane in an episode of The Clone Wars, and then in The Force Awakens, as Luke Skywalker. While his role in that film was but a mere cameo, he is expected to take center stage in The Last Jedi , due out in December.
