Lando Loves Rambo: Billy Dee Williams And Sylvester Stallone Just Had A Badass Nighthawks Reunion

As far as we know, Star Wars' Lando Calrissian never met Rambo or Rocky, but actors Billy Dee Williams and Sylvester Stallone are old friends. "Old" is relative when it comes to these two -- Sly is 72 and Billy Dee is 81 -- because it's clear they are keeping in pretty good shape. They worked together on the 1981 crime thriller Nighthawks and reunited about 38 years later at the gym. Both actors have major movies coming out later this year -- Sly with Rambo V: Last Blood and Billy Dee with Star Wars: Episode IX. And they both shared the same reunion photo on social media, as well as fond memories of working together on Nighthawks:

Sylvester Stallone and Billy Dee Williams are both known for making plenty of sequels to their respective franchises, so I see no problem with bringing them back for Nighthawks 2. Bring back Lindsay Wagner (who was just on Grey's Anatomy) and the rest of the cast and let's go.

Sly Stallone shared his own photo of the Nighthawks reunion on Instagram, including his memories of how tough the film was to make. At the time, so many years before 9/11, he said it didn't seem feasible to The Powers That Be that the plot followed terrorists attacking New York:

In Nighthawks, Sylvester Stallone played Detective Sergeant Deke DaSilva, with Billy Dee Williams as Detective Sergeant Matthew Fox. Here's a look at Sly and Billy Dee in the movie:

That's quite a look, Sly. By that point, Sylvester Stallone had already proven himself with Rocky in 1976, and Rocky II in 1979. He was about to do Rocky III in 1982 and the first Rambo movie, First Blood in 1982. Fast-forward to 2019, and he's fresh off another return as Rocky Balboa in Creed II and preparing to release Rambo V: Last Blood on September 20, 2019.

Billy Dee Williams was even more fresh off success, with his debut as Lando Calrissian coming in The Empire Strikes Back, which had opened in 1980, just a year before Nighthawks opened. You can imagine the filming experiences were quite different. Apparently Nighthawks had a lot of production problems along the way, but it sounds like Billy Dee would've shot the Star Wars movie and Nighthawks back to back. He then returned as Lando in Return of the Jedi in 1983.

Now, nearly 40 years after Lando's debut, Billy Dee Williams is bringing the character he originated back to the big screen in Star Wars: Episode IX. That film will hit theaters December 20, 2019, three months after his buddy Sly's latest movie. Lando reportedly doesn't have a large role in Episode IX, but that doesn't mean he won't be important to the story. Details on that film are being kept under wraps. Meanwhile, Sly is promoting his new Rambo movie across social media. No need for major secrecy there.

Apparently Someone Edited Captain Marvel And Other Women Out Of Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is still in theaters and we dont yet know when it will arrive on home video. But when it does, many fans may be hoping for deleted scenes and perhaps an even longer cut of the film, despite its already 3-hour runtime. Well have to wait to see if we get some sort of Directors Cut with the Blu-ray, but there is already another, unofficial cut of the film in existence. You might not be interested in watching this one though, as it edits out Captain Marvel and other women.

According to NPR, an anonymous fan has edited a pirated version of 2019s biggest movie to create what is called a defeminized version. This modified cut of Avengers: Endgame, now circulating on an illegal streaming site, completely eliminates Brie Larsons Captain Marvel from the movie-- as well as any other elements that the editor interpreted as being feminist or queer.

In addition to losing Captain Marvel entirely, the defeminized version of Avengers: Endgame also eliminates the part in the final battle where women rescue Tom Hollands Spider-Man. Im guessing that means the A-Force shot with all the female heroes is definitely cut. None of the male characters hug each other in this modified version of the movie, and Black Panthers role is also minimized.

Also missing is the opening scene of the film where Hawkeye teaches his daughter to shoot with a bow and arrow. The reasoning for that cut, according to an accompanying document is that Young women should learn skills to become good wives and mothers and leave the fighting to men. It's a line of thinking that is certainly controversial, and one that goes against the messaging in Avengers: Endgame.

This is just the latest salvo internet trolls have taken against Brie Larson, after review-bombing Captain Marvel earlier this year in response to comments she made about inclusivity in the film press (comments that she later clarified).

This isnt the first time this has happened with a blockbuster film either. Rian Johnsons Star Wars: The Last Jedi received a similar defeminized cut, dubbed more appropriately The Chauvinist Cut took that hotly debated film and removed scenes of women in battle, making decisions or really doing anything to further the plot in any way.

These kind of fan edits, if you can really call them that given that the editor isnt a fan of so much of the movie, excise much of what is needed to make the story work in the name of not having to look at fully fleshed out female characters. And so insecurities turn a great film into a crappy one that doesnt really fit together.

It should be noted that it is entirely possible that the creator of the Avengers: Endgame defeminized cut is just trolling, looking for attention and to get a rise out of people that take stuff too seriously. But who wants to watch a pirated version of a 3-hour movie for a mediocre joke?

Thats a totally plausible theory, and Poes Law speaks to the ambiguity of the internet where, without clear knowledge of the authors intent (and they could always be lying) it is impossible to parody extreme views in such a way that it cant be mistaken for a sincere expression of those views. Personally, I think I'll stick with the theatrical cut.

The Fox News Movie Has Found Its Roger Ailes

With Fox News having now been on the airwaves for over 20 years, its former CEO, the late Roger Ailes, will soon find himself the subject of two different projects. Last month, it was announced that Russell Crowe has been tapped to play Ailes in a Showtime limited series chronicling the last decade of the media mogul's life (with flashbacks thrown in), but there is also a movie in the works that focuses on Ailes' final years. As for who will play Ailes on the big screen, John Lithgow has secured that job.

According to Variety, John Lithgow has been tapped to portray Roger Ailes in the untitled Ailes movie from Annapurna, which will follow Ailes' fall from power after numerous female employees at Fox News and other women accused him of sexual harassment in 2016, most notably former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, who alleged that she'd been fired for not giving in to Ailes' advances. This and the other allegations ultimately led to him resigning from the network. Ailes passed away a year later at age 77. Unlike the Showtime limited series, this movie will not delve into Ailes' entire life, and it will be told from the perspective of the women who spoke out against him rather than him being the central character.

Roger Ailes is far from the first real-life figure that John Lithgow has portrayed. His other notable credits in that regard include playing Walter J. Skinner in A Civil Action, Blake Edwards in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, Franklin D. Roosevelt in World War II: When Lions Roared and Winston Churchill in The Crown (for which he recently won an Emmy). Outside the realm of history, Lithgow's recent appearances include The Accountant, Miss Sloane, Daddy's Home 2, Pitch Perfect 3 and Trial & Error. In addition to this Fox News movie, Lithgow will also play Jud Crandall in the Pet Sematary remake, as well as star in the Mindy Kaling-directed Late Night.

John Lithgow isn't the only big name attached to Annapurna's Fox News movie. The cast also includes Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson, Charlize Theron (who is also attached as a producer) as Megyn Kelly and Margot Robbie as a fictional Fox News producer. Trumbo's Jay Roach is directing the movie and The Big Short's Charles Randolph penned the script.

No release date has been set for this Fox News movie yet, but stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates about the project, including who else will pad out the cast. Tag Reviews Are In, Heres What The Critics Think

Movies being based on true stories are hardly infrequent in Hollywood, but every now and then a movie comes along where you wonder "Wait, something like this actually happened in real life?!" Tag is such an example, with the comedy starring Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Hannibal Buress and Isla Fisher, among others, following a group of friends who have been playing the same game of tag for 30 years. Finally hitting theaters nationwide tomorrow, the first Tag reviews have started pouring in. Starting off, CinemaBlend's own Mike Reyes gave Tag three out of five stars in his review, saying that although the movie was uneven, the cast "injects a huge shot of life" into the proceedings.

Despite its messy execution, Tag is still full of slick performances and a streak of impish glee running through its various set pieces, which draws its failings in even sharper contrast than a more middling film of its ilk.

Richard Roeper from The Chicago Sun-Times wasn't nearly as kind to Tag, giving the movie only 1.5 stars out of five and declaring that the real life story about these tag enthusiasts was way too thin a premise to make for an entertaining movie.

We're not even halfway through 2018, but when it comes time to compile my list of the worst movies of the year, I have a strong sense there will be a moment when I'll be saying to Tag: you're it.

Moving back to more positive territory, The A.V. Club's A.A. Dowd gave Tag a B-, commending the performances, even if the content itself wasn't exceptional.

There's something mildly depressing about viewing petty gamesmanship as the engine that fuels and sustains male friendship. But funny is funny, and Tag gets by, appropriately enough, on the personalities of its stars...

Variety's Peter Debruge was also nicer to Tag, saying that while the movie certainly gets ridiculous at times, it deliveries a surprisingly "poignant" statement on friendship.

Tag leaves audiences energized and, dare I say, inspired, having delivered all that outrageousness... in service of what ultimately amounts to a sincere celebration of lasting human connections.

Jon Frosch from The Hollywood Reporter felt directly in the middle with Tag, noting that there are "worse ways to kill a couple of hours," but that the movie has problems with dialogue and maintaining momentum (though he mused that if might have worked better as a "really good, twisted psychological thriller").

Tag is neither bad nor good, but rather, despite its out-there story, almost numbingly ordinary: an easy, breezy action-com that's sometimes amusing but rarely funny, competent rather than inspired.

Finally, IGN's Simon Thompson awarded Tag an 8 out of 10 score, admitting that while some of the tag action sequences lost their impact because they were shown in the trailer(s), the movie's script is still on point.

Tag isn't a comedy classic but it's certainly entertaining and delivers what it promises along with a few welcome surprises. As a whole, it's never anything less than entertaining with some nicely twisted touches.

There are just a sampling of the Tag reviews now available, but overall, it sounds like the movie rests solidly in mixed reception territory. You can judge Tag for yourself when it runs into theaters tomorrow, though many of you will likely be able to catch it tonight in preview screenings. Overall, it sounds like Brightburn won't be everybody's cup of tea, but there are at least a scattering of moments for comic book and/or horror fans to enjoy.

Still, overall, it looks like Toy Story 4 is not just another worthy addition to the Pixar library, but in some people's eyes, it'll be the best of the Toy Story movies.
