A Quiet Place 2 Is Moving Forward At Paramount
Having already establishing himself as a well-known actor with roles like Jim Halpert on The Office and Jack Silva in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, John Krasinski recently pulled double duty as both lead actor and director with A Quiet Place. The movie followed a family who was living in silence in order to avoid being killed by monstrous creatures who hunt by sound, but its performance was anything but low-key, earning critical acclaim and taking the box office by star. Now following weeks of speculation, it's been confirmed that A Quiet Place 2 is moving forward.
Paramount Pictures chair Jim Gianapolus announced that A Quiet Place 2 had been given the green light during the Paramount panel at CinemaCon. No specific details about the sequel were provided, but Gianapolus noted that he believes in the collaboration between John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, who also starred in the first movie.
Written by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, A Quiet Place was made with a $17 million budget, but so far it's made over $213 million worldwide and counting. Critically, it ranks at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, so all things considered, it's an impressive directorial debut for John Krasinski. Similar to Warner Bros' IT last year, A Quiet Place is a low-budget horror movie that's gone on to be more successful than anyone could have imagined. There will be differing opinions among moviegoers about whether A Quiet Place 2 should even be happening, but from a studio perspective, it's easy to see why getting a sequel going. Woods and Beck previously said that they already have some "set pieces"written for A Quiet Place 2, and Beck also noted that there are "multiple universes" the next story could be set in.

John Krasinski's character, Lee Abbott, sacrificed himself towards the end of A Quiet Place so that his family, including his newborn child, could escape the sound-sensitive creatures. So if Krasinski does contribute to A Quiet Place 2, it will be solely as director again. As for where A Quiet Place 2 could go from there, Lee's daughter, Regan, discovered at the end of the first movie that the cochlear implant that her father repaired could emit feedback that, when activated in front of a microphone, could significantly weaken the creatures, making vulnerable and easier to kill. It's possible A Quiet Place 2 will follow the Abbott family traveling elsewhere in the United States to kill more of these monstrosities, or perhaps this horror series will take more of an anthology route and follow a new group of characters, with the story having little to no direct ties with the first movie.
