Wonder Woman 1984 May Be Even Better If Hans Zimmer Joins
Back in 2016, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice marked the elegant arrival of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman in a memorable moment which had Diana Prince unleashing her incredible powers, dazzling the other heroes along with audiences. This formable scene for the Amazonian princess was backed by a new theme created by none other than the incredible talent of composer Hans Zimmer, along with Junkie XL. But when it came to scoring her 2017 solo film, his frequent collaborator Rupert Gregson-Williams took on the project, although his original arrangement was still heavily in mind as Diana fought independently. Riding off the strong success of Wonder Woman and with a sequel currently in the works, Zimmer will reportedly compose the upcoming film, directed by Patty Jenkins.
According to Hans-Zimmer.com, the Oscar-winning composer has signed on to score Wonder Woman 1984, although it hasn't been officially announced by the studio. Excitement for the sequel to the DCEU's most well-received film already runs high, with the return of Gal Gadot as Diana Prince and (shockingly) Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, battling against Kristen Wiig powerful baddie, Cheetah. The potential addition of Hans Zimmer as composer would be more than welcome, especially considering the incredible theme he helped introduced the hero. Additionally, the sequel's unique 80s feel could potentially benefit from his masterful musical talent.
Hans Zimmer is no stranger to scoring superhero films, focusing heavily on DC characters as he has also worked on the entirety of the Dark Knight trilogy, and Man of Steel. Zimmer's connection with DC films started with a continuing collaboration with Christopher Nolan, that started with 2005's Batman Begins and has continued with his most recent release Dunkirk. After scoring Zack Synder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Junkie XL, the composer said he was "officially retiring from the superhero business", citing a lack of inspiration to create fresh new arrangements within the genre. However, earlier this year his involvement in X-Men: Dark Phoenix contradicted his previous statement. So Zimmer either found some inspiration in that particular project or opted to create uninspired arrangements for the X-Men film anyway.
If Hans Zimmer has returned to score Wonder Woman 1984, he might have been swayed by both the incredible success the film gained last year and the compelling approach Patty Jenkins is taking with the project by setting it in the Cold War era this time around. When creating the theme for Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zimmer used the opportunity to bring in women musicians into the arrangement, and create a new feeling and sound, with a distinct female touch. Perhaps, if he scores the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel, he might do this again, adding in a female collaborator to the project, as he had Junkie XL with him on Dawn of Justice.
Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on November 1, 2019 to theaters, hopefully with the talent of Hans Zimmer to heighten the already immensely exciting film.
