Jake Gyllenhaal Convinced Jamie Lee Curtis To Do The New Halloween

Horror fans are in for a treat later this year when Blumhouse's Halloween reboot finally hits theaters forty years after the debut of John Carpenter's original slasher flick. There's a lot of anticipation to see what director David Gordon Green can bring to the table, as he's currently riding high off of the critical acclaim enjoyed by his Boston Marathon bombing movie, Stronger, from last year. That film generated quite a bit of buzz for the filmmaker, and it turns out that Stronger star Jake Gyllenhaal actually was the one who convinced Jamie Lee Curtis to return to the Halloween franchise following his collaboration with Green.

So, it seems that Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Lee Curtis are more connected than some of us may have previously realized. The two are close family friends, and Curtis even refers to him as her "unofficial godson." Given that close relationship, Variety reports that it was the Donnie Darko star who convinced Curtis to sign on for the Halloween reboot because he had such a good time working with David Gordon Green on Stronger, even reportedly going so far as to rank it as one of the top experiences of his career.

Once Jamie Lee Curtis got a chance to meet David Gordon Green, she fell back into a nice rhythm reminiscent of the one experienced when she worked on the original Halloween. In fact, the actress has likened David Gordon Green's style to that of John Carpenter, noting his calm and relaxed approach to filmmaking. After all, this is the guy responsible for Pineapple Express, so it makes sense to know that he has a lighter side when Michael Myers isn't butchering teenagers on the spookiest night of the year.

With Jake Gyllenhaal having convinced them to work together, now it's a matter of waiting to see what David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis can do. The first trailer for the Halloween reboot dropped last week and took the internet by storm, and it looks like the reboot will honor the first film in a major way, as it sets up a dark showdown between a scrappy and capable Laurie Strode (who has been preparing for this fight) and a perpetually-enigmatic Boogeyman with an affinity for white masks and kitchen knives.

Halloween fans will get a chance to see if Jamie Lee Curtis had an experience similar to the one enjoyed by Jake Gyllenhaal on Stronger later this year when Blumhouse's Halloween debuts in theaters on October 19. The Meg's Rainn Wilson Has Weird Ideas For An Evil Villain Hed Love To Play

Last year, CinemaBlend chatted with The Meg star Rainn Wilson, and he joked about the possibility of getting the chance to play a Bond villain. While that hasn't happened yet, his somewhat conniving take on Jack Morris in his new film still has us wondering what that could look like. So we asked Wilson about his potential as a villain during a recent interview for The Meg, and he offered up a pretty colorful description of a baddie he would want to play involving an iguana, a facial deformity, and Kelsey Grammer. Wilson said:

I don't know that there's an existing villain that I would want to play. I'd want to create my own villain. You know? I'd want to design my own pet. Maybe an iguana? And like a scar from my nostril. Maybe I'm missing a nostril. Maybe I have a very small tattoo of Kelsey Grammer or something. Really specific things that make him a really specific villain. I would like someone to greenlight a movie and be like, 'Get me Rainn Wilson as a really weird villain.'

It almost sounds like Blofeld on acid, doesn't it? We have no idea what type of movie Rainn Wilson would need to sign on for in order to play that kind of villain (or what his ultimate scheme would be in the film), but I think it's safe to say that's a decidedly weird description worthy of consideration. After all, if that's what he has come up with off of the top of his head, then we can't wait to see what would happen if he were to hone the idea even further.

For now, Rainn Wilson's current focus is the role of Jack Morris in Jon Turteltaub's The Meg. A billionaire investor with a massive financial stake in the movie's central ocean expedition, Morris is a money man who stays focused on the bottom line of the scientific research that he has funded. It's a different role than Wilson is typically known for playing (a.k.a it's a far cry from Dwight Schrute in The Office), but it could represent a stepping stone to a full-blown villain somewhere down the line.

Only time will tell if Rainn Wilson will ever get a chance to play this incredibly odd and unique bad guy. That said, audiences and fans of his work will be able to check out his latest performance this weekend when The Meg premieres on August 10. Incredibles 2 Has Screened, Heres What People Think

Sequels that take a long time to reach theaters can be hit or miss. Momentum generated by the original film (or films) could dissolve. The audience who was around to support the original film might have moved on to other interests. So there was always a risk for Pixar Animation Studios blowing 14 years of dust off of The Incredibles for an animated sequel, but by the early reaction to Incredibles 2, the gamble paid off. The movie screened for critics last night, and the social embargo was lifted, allowing our own Eric Eisenberg to Tweet:

That is high praise! In a summer season that already has brought audiences Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2, Eric calling Brad Bird's Incredibles 2 "one of the best titles of the summer" definitely gets us excited. Speaking of Brad Bird, he's praised by Silas Lesnick, who tweets:

While the praise was nearly universal, Peter Sciretta at SlashFilm liked but didn't love the sequel, stating:

Even in his Tweet, he praised the work of composer Michael Giacchino, as many also did. At the very least, we are eager to hear the score for this new sequel.

As part of that mission, Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) teams up with the mysterious Deavors, while Bob (Craig T. Nelson) stays home and takes care of the family.
